Am I being unreasonable? (drink driving related)

In bullet points to keep it simple :).

- I met a friend last Friday after work.
- We have a glass of wine each and she drives to the cinema.
- We have one more drink each with some food, then walk to the cinema from there.
- We watch the film and then we drive back to hers.
- On the way we see no end of Police stopping cars for breath tests. I 100% agree with this and see no issue with it.
- The person I am with starts (metaphorically) crapping her pants, saying she will 'get done'.
- We don't get pulled, but she then tells me before we left that she had another glass of wine and a vodka & coke (both without me knowing and before I arrived).
- I am quite angry that she drove to the cinema after 3 drinks with me in the car, yet she thinks I am being over the top. I am quite disappointed that I went in the car with her thinking she had had one drink.
- Needless to say, I had quite a go at her for having 3 drinks then going to the cinema, having one more drink before the film then driving home afterwards. Personally I think if she had been pulled she would have been OK, but should she have not been OK, I would have zero sympathy. It just is not worth the risk.
- She says it is no big deal she 'does it all the time'.

So, Overclockers UK, am I being over the top or am I well within my right to be mad at someone who let me get in the car with her when she had had 3 drinks, when I thought she had only had one drink (before we left)?

Edit - She tried to make me feel like I had OCD and was being stupid.

Were you planning on doing some street racing afterwards? Otherwise I can't really see why this is in the motorsport section.

More to the point though, I think by far the easiest way to deal with this is - if you're driving, just don't drink alcohol at all. Problem solved. I would be wary of being driven if someone had 3 drinks, I don't think that's unreasonable.

Ahh crap my mistake. It has been a long week! Could a mod please move the thread? :).
She did not tell me until we were halfway home :(.

No, you're not being over the top. Your friend should not be driving if there's any risk she might be over the limit.

Rgds

Did she have 3 or 4 drinks. Also depends on time of drinks and time of driving. A couple of drinks at 4pm then driving home at 10pm isn't an issue.
So it depends. Although if she was crapping herself, she probably consumed to much.

Also worth noting you can be done even if your below the limit.

Was the second drink with the food alcoholic? If so, she had 4. However, that aside there are two things to really consider from a legal standpoint:

1. How big were those glasses of wine?
2. How much time elapsed between all of this?

From a moral standpoint it would again depend on the size of the glasses. If she had three large glasses (i.e. a bottle) AND a vodka and coke I'd be a bit wtf. If they were small glasses and lots of time went by I wouldn't be too bothered.

Thinking she had had one drink before we left ;). I will change the OP to make it clearer.

How would I get in trouble too if I just plain didn't know? I was half asleep I had been at work all day then driven 2 hours to visit.

I drink a few cans of super strengh and 2ltr of white lightening and i can drive fine. Do this daily and never had a trouble.

Do wonder how that granny got stuck in my grill though last month :/

there are two issues here

1) she would be over the limit if stopped and get banned

2) she was putting your life at risk because she was drunk

in your opinion was her driving impaired by her having a drink ?

Probably not, but if she had been in a crash, her fault or not, she would end up in prison and/or with a lengthy driving ban as they would blame her reaction times.

It is just not acceptable to have a few drinks and say '**** it, I will be fine' and drive - All imo of course.

i get you, and the fact that she lied to you too

She did not lie as in tell me something that is not true, she neglected to tell me, which is more irresponsible imo.

The other week she said to me 'my car was swerving when I was doing 100mph on the motorway' - I checked the tyre and it was 5psi and the spare was almost bald .
