Is it ok to run three sticks of ram on a P5Q deluxe

Ive got 4gig (two sticks) at the moment and i could do with another couple of gig for some headroom on battlefield 3.
Ive had a look in the manual but i cant find any ref to it.

My manual says upto 16GB 4 x DIMM max. DDR2 1200/1066/800 667 MHz.
So you can install another 2 sticks.

Yeah i know four is fine, but ive dropped on another 2gig stick and with it being dual channel, im wondering if ill lose any performance running three sticks if you follow what im trying to say

I ran 3 sticks of ram in my board for a couple of months, and couldn't tell the difference.

Used the first three slots, whichever colour they are!

Obviously you'll lose some memory performance, i'd prefer go run in DC for optimal performance, but it does no harm i suppose.
