Biofuel Timebomb for older cars.

Just like when leaded was phased out garages specifically advertised leaded pumps and you had to use a select few.

Yeah, just like that, oh, except they were marketed as different products, and even had a different pump nozzle colour (red vs green).

Again, this is not the same situation at all. No idea why you seem to be unable to grasp this rather simple premise.

It's very similar and I may well be affected as its going to be worse on old motorbikes than cars.

The name change agreement hasn't been agreed. Even if it is that's not to say companies won't advertise it differently. Infant they are very likely to. The whole green sector is massive.
It really is the same.

No no ones working on corrosive additives at all. Or maybe not.

So quite obviously they do exist.

And another site
A process for reducing the metal corrosion of a hydrocarbonaceous liquid which causes corrosion as measured by NACE Standard TM0172-2001, said process comprising blending with the hydrocarbonaceous liquid at least 0.1 weight percent of an acidic Fischer-Tropsch product in sufficient proportion to produce a hydrocarbonaceous blend displaying reduced metal corrosion as measured by NACE Standard TM0172-2001 when compared to the hydrocarbonaceous liquid and a hydrocarbonaceous blend prepared by the process.

Absolutely no different to the ban on lead.
Over reaction for nothing. If your car will have issue find a solution.

LRP pretty much shagged my parent's old, but mint Austin Metro.
You cannot simply design a car to run on one fuel, then stop selling 4 star and expect the car to work fine.
What a crappy, ill thought of 'end-of-pipe' solution (I am doing a Ph.D in sustainable manufacturing).

I stand corrected on the additve, interesting, though annoying to have to stick another additive in my fuel on top of super unleaded :(

If the fuel complies to that standard then it should already be added.
No idea how many follow that standard or if it's enforced or anything.

The best thing to do with a vehicle is to keep it on the road no matter how 'dirty' the emissions are.

I am all for environmental changes, but suddenly doing this isn't the answer.

It's not suddenly, by 2020. It's just pumps will start appearing next year and the name change hasn't been agreed. You'll just have to shop With a bit more savy.
Other than a littel inconvience it really isn't an issue.

Just a motoring website jumping on a bandwagon with out the information.

I often read that but is it really true? I found some figures a while back and did some basic 'maffamatics and worked out that my car pumps out slightly more carbons every year than it took to make it in the first place.

Over the lifespan of the car surely that must still put the emission figure back in favour of binning my car and running something cleaner for the next 5 years or so?

You sound like a right green supporting hippy its an inconvenience that shouldn't happen/

You sound like a right green supporting hippy tbh.

What's wrong with that?

Although I'm certainly not in the standard camp as they are just mental with no forward thinking, plans or sense. Which makes this scheme pointless, but we signed up so it has to be done. Be prepared for a load more like this and the normal lightbulb ban. We have signed up to lower energy consumption, co2 and increase effeciency. So more laws will be coming in as we get closer to the 2012 deadline.

A country with less carbon particulates, smog, heavy metals and noise is surly something everyone would like.

What about those who have classic cars? It's a bit of a kick in the nuts for them.

But then who cares as long as we artificially brainwash people into buying new eco-crapboxes?

Because classic car owners buy the car in question because they like that particular car. Generally it doesn't matter when it's phased out, they're going to be shafted in the end.

Shafted in what way? Technology changes as does laws. People can still use and run classic cars.

When petrol stations diaper as there's no market for you are you going to say ICE owners are being shafted as well?
