I game at 2560x1600 (480 sli)

I have always set AA in games at this Res usually 4x or above with 16x AF

Now playing battlefield 3 I tried it with 4xAA 2xAA and none.

You know what I can't tell the difference between the settings. I might do if I took a screen cap and compared them.

So is AA worth it at such high res?

Entirely subjective.

I don't run AA at 3560x1920 purely for the reason that my HD6970 can't handle it in most modern games. I can still see "jaggies" depending on the game.

In something fast paced like BF3 I don't care so much. In Skyrim it can be annoying.

I will do some screen caps and see what I think, tbh at 4x AA I still get a solid 60 fps (vsync Triple buff on).

How big is your screen though? That can also depend on it, the more pixels crammed in a little space, the less likely you need AA. AA simply is just showing the average colours of a group of pixels in a pixel (if that make sense).

At 1920x1200 on bf3 i dont use msaa, set post to high instead. The fps hit with msaa applied is just too much to take, and i cant really see an awful lot of difference with it on.

I'm in an emty server right now, and can see the difference with AA deferred set to off, rather than 2xMSAA, but from 2xMSAA to 4xMSAA I can't really tell.

antialiasing post is ugly and I don't like the blurry affect it gives.

Are you using motion blur as well Locky? Personally i turn it off as it hurts my eyes too much. I cant play any game with this feature enabled for more than a few minutes before feeling a bit queazy.

No motion blur is off for the same reason as you. it's nasty.

antialiasing post differently adds a blurred image.

Are you seeing much in the way of fps improvements from 4/2/0x msaa? With post on high there is indeed a slight blur, but with msaa the fps hit for me can be high. Settings im using.

graphics quality = custom
texture quality = ultra
shadow quality = ultra
effects quality = ultra
mesh quality = ultra
terrain quality = ultra
terrain decoration = ultra
antiliasing deferred = off
antiliasing post = high
motion blur = off
motion blur amount = 50

With msaa i see a fair hit on fps, few benchmarks with the above settings.

Well I have vsync on with triple buff, I don't get any mouse lag at all with this.

So its 60fps with about 65% gpu usage, with MSAA turned off,

with MSAA at 2x its about 80% usage & MSAA at 4x its ni-on 99% usage and sometimes get an fps drop to 55-60fps.

Yea you do. I had a Dell 30 inch for a few years. You still need it. Just not as much as say lower resolutions. Still need it though ;)

I would say like at all res, it's down to your eye sight, how close you sit to the screen, and the pixel density.

A 18.4" 1920x1080 screen will need AA a lot less than a 24" 1920x1080 screen for example. At least a small amount of AA will be useful, but higher pixel densities it does become less 'needed'.
