Best motorway cruiser

The difficulty with the Mondeo it has to be a manual (the auto is utterly crap), and no good cruiser is a manual.

why not? Once up to cruising speed you don't have to change gear anyway so why spoil your choice by limiting yourself to auto box's. If it was a city car he was after maybe, but on a long range trip why do you need a auto? Doing 300miles between services stations you only have to change gear like 9 times, Less so if you skip gears. Hardly hard work changing gears 9 times.

Anyone worrying about insurance and tax, even if it is a non-issue in reality, probably isn't going to want to be faffing around with the bills on a 9 year old 530i Auto, even though there isnt anything this side of £10k I'd buy instead.

the best i had was a merc vito 108cdi chipped went like a rocket topped out at 125 mph heres some pics of it

If you have completely traffic free motorway cruises, sure, but when ever does that happen? I can tolerate a manual around town but I simply cannot be bothered driving uphill in 2 MPH traffic for an hour, for example.

not a joke but they also do the vaino wich is real luxuary they hanndle just like a car other than that id look at the crysler voyger oh and btw im a mechanic and i used to buy n sell cars for a living so i know what im on about

What 2.0 petrol? Different models of car can be significantly different to insure.

I've been looking at the 130bhp 2.0 passat
Other cars I've shortlisted in my head (completely open to suggestions) are the 2.0 mondeo petrol & skoda octavia 2.0 petrol

Motorways are rarely problem free these days and it only takes a few minutes crawling through traffic in the aftermath of an accident to crave an auto. Plus we don't know where he is visiting. They may involve several miles of congestion at rush hour just to get back onto the motorway.
