just bought oblvion wont let me play...

just bought oblivion off steam and i just started it up tried to make a character
and it crashes?

oblivion is an old game so im pretty sure somehere knows the problem

i have an i5 gtx 560 4gb ram etc so no peformance issues updated drivers the whole lot, can someone help?

Have you tried verifying the game cache. I've gotten into the habit of verifying the cache after I have downloaded a game from Steam. Maybe one of your file downloads was corrupt.

i tried it i got to make my character then it just started skipping and then crashed. same thing but go as far as making my character dunno really its really making me mad

To verify the game cache right click on oblivion then select properties, then select local files and then click on verify integrity of game cache.

Hey mate, i have a very similar problem to you. I bought the game last time it was on sale a few months ago and still not working.

I start a new game from fresh everything is fine the game loads but when i move my character
the game crashes and goes off.

I have installed the patch, verifyed the game, deleted this file and that file, modified the .INI file and still nothing.

Its put me off from getting skyrim when it was on sale a few days ago. dont need more problems with another elder scrolls game.

If any body can help any more that would be great.

i know what u mean man ive verified the game done th unoffcial patch etc still wont work but the funny thing is ive played skyrim fine so im really confused

Quick google for the same bug came across someone saying they fixed it by putting oblivion to compatibility mode Win XP, just right click on whatever the oblivion exe is in the steam folders its in, try that.

I have the same problem with the steam goty edition.
This is by no means a proper fix but if i disable the dlc from the pre game load menu the normal game works fine.....ill play the nice game of " which dlc breaks the game " some other time
