Hello there, im currently running my system on "Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit" I'm looking to upgrade this to 8 gig or even 16 if anyone would recomend it how ever i feel 8 gig would do the job for what I use it for.

I'm wondering if it would be worth just re-buying the exact same stuff as i have or totally replaceing the ram.

The Mother board is, "MSI P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (socket 1155)" currently clocked to 4.5mhz (dont know if thats imporant)

Thanks in advance.

I just went from 4 to 12 gigabyes of that ram and while I have noticed an improvement it is definately overkill. It was £37 though so I'm finding it hard to be bothered.

Honestly i'm not too fussed about overkill - atleast aslong as its not decreasing the systems performance else where. Probably a stupid question but how did you get the 12 gig, Did you buy 2x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit?

Just use another 2x2 kit unless you want to upgrade even more in the future in which case I'd probably start over

XMS timings 9 9 9 24 & HyperX Grey is 9 9 9 27, should be able to adjust timings manually to get them the same.
But, you could flog the XMS in MM & just use HyperX Grey.

I had 2x2GB of XMS3 and bought another 2 sticks for 8GB in 4 sticks total for Battlefield 3.

2600k overclocks exactly the same, run at the same voltage, stock timings at 1T.

8GB is plenty for me and I imagine by the time I need more I will be on a whole new platform.
