Richard Branson: Time to end the war on drugs

Wow, just wow.

There are plenty of innocent people that don't do drugs that accidentally get involved, but since your allegiance seems to ally itself with unscrupulous profiteers.

Pointless to argue with you.

A legal system though, would use such drug barons though.
And would be identical to current pharmaceuticals. Or tobacco production.

No need for the sensationalism.

People are harmed because they are illegal. Drugs when sold through legal channels like supermarkets do not result in people being burned alive and beheaded.

Oh yeah cause drug barons are known for being lawful businesses, you really think they would stop killing folk and so forth?

Why would we be using them full stop.
They would turn legal, we kpjust wouldn't be using them. They would have lost one of their countries they supply to.

We can grow or manugpfacture the drugs in the uk, for the most part.

OK im confused now, you want to fully legalise the drugs?

I thought you meant pro legislation as in what's gone on already...Well im a fool. :(

Well Branson said something sensible which pleases me.

Portugal is the model for how to treat drug users, as a human and a patient. It's very clear that drugs are bad (M'Kay) but treating users as criminals only fuels the problem, treating them as addicts who do not choose a life of crime is sensible. Drugs are still criminalised but the person with them is treated as someone with a problem that society has to fix, not someone who is against society. More countries need to adopt this attitude to tackle drug use and abuse as current strategies have failed.

Where a few posters have gone on about how we should be free to choose to ruin our lives when they should really consider how everyone else should be free to choose not to have their lives ruined by drug addicts.

Ok, because I've maybe once or twice done MDMA recreationally and smoked weed I should be shot Robbo?

Better shoot half of the students at my uni then. I'm not addicted to the stuff, and neither are they.

He did say the junkies and dealers.
The occasional smoke wouldn't place you in a junkie category.
Don't agree with his endgame, but the major suppliers probably should be executed, after legalisation, keeps the competition away from the govt sponsored ones, increases tax revenue.

I agree that government sponsored dealers is the best way. Ensure there are no harmful chemicals mixed in, because unless you've got a trusted dealer you have no idea what you are buying.

While Portugal seems to be the model when it comes to dealing with drugs users, can we balance this by adopting Singapore's approach when it comes to drugs traffickers and dealers?

They will be nonexistent after legalization. Corporations will offer the lower prices, no need for dealers if off licenses and supermarkets sell. I imagine that many would grow their own which is fair game.

Pharmacies are the pefect model of how they should be run. Licensed medical experts selling drugs of specific strength and purity. They already sell the majority of illegal drugs as it is.

I've completely given up hope of any kind of event based drugs policy in the uk. The politicians are too scared. :(

Wait for Branson to be offed....
That'll be the next problem
Drug Lords wont stand for their "business model" to be shut down.

Read what I said.

Are you a junkie or a dealer? I doubt it. ;)

I hope not anyway. :p

End the war on drugs?

Shooting all the junkies and dealers sounds like a fantastic idea to me.

So murder is better than drug use? What about all the alcoholics, or alcohol dependant/binge drinkers in the country who deny the fact that they binge or are dependant? Shoot them too?

Alcohol has a far worse negative effect on society than any other drug does.

Yes, we can shoot alcoholics too. ;)

The latter part of your statement is pretty redundant given the laws etc though, but I don't want another debate about that.
