Oh thought I would mention that the Games were a Christmas present and as yet she has not been able to play yet, so any input would be grateful..

Ta.

I believe you can get an AGP 4670 if you look around. This will be more than enough for Sims 3. Shouldn't stress the 300w power supply too much either but what model is it?

6600GT, good card in its day

Hope so, going through ebay didnt shed any light and reading about agp cards is a blur.... just need to keep my daughter happy before she spills the beans on my `rig details` to `you know who`, some would call it blackmail....from an 11 year old....:eek::eek:

If its anything like The Sims 2 it is probably CPU limited anyway. I had a look at some benchmarks and an A64 4000+ seemed to really struggle so on a S754 chip you will want to be running it on low settings.

The best AGP was an HD3850 512MB afaik. But these do command a slight price premium because of that fact. I'm not sure if nvidia made anything in the 8 series graphics cards in an AGP, but certainly in earlier series' than that AGP is available.

were the HD 3850's the last AGP cards?

I had the x1950pro 512mb AGP. That was quite a good card in its day but I think that needed 450w PSU. I too had the 6600GT and that was an ok card but in between those 2, I had a 7600GT. Now that was a good card and very overlooked/under-rated. It was quite close to the x1950pro in most games and much faster than the 6600gt. You might be able to get one of those for next to nothing. It has to be the GT version though, the standard 7600 is a completley different card. IIRC the 7600gt was a scaled down 7800.

I gave up waiting for the 3850 AGP and went PCI-E
