David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trailer

First thought was that this doesn't need to be remade at all...then I saw Fincher was the director and i'm quite looking forward to it now, the man can do no wrong.

Fincher will probably make another great film, but come on!? Another remake of a film that doen't need to be remade, only because it was created in another language? This is why Hollywood and American cinema is on the decline.

Glad this is being remade for 3 reasons.

1. Trent Reznor
2. Don't have to listen to Swedish, I have no problem, with subtitles but found Swedish a really crap language to listen to, sounds like drunk people a lot of the time.

yeah its made because the yanks hate or cant read subtitles :D

loved the originals films, have the extended blu-rays

Not as good as the Swedish films which are brilliant.

The books are phenomenal too, well worth a read.

Not as good as the Swedish originals. Only big positives are the look of the film, the style and the cinematography. Which is kind of what you expect from a Fincher film, it's certainly going to look good.

That aside, the Swedish films are better, Noomi Rapace is magnificent as Lisbeth.

I think this movie will be great for people too dumb to read subtitles.

Yeah, I've gone there. Straight there.

I got the English dubbed ones and they are brilliant, I'll watch these but I bet they will be awfull in comparison.

My attention span is to shot for subtitles.

Normally dont mind subtitled films (Life is Beautiful one of my favourite films). Couldnt get into the Swedish films though. Looking forward to seeing this.

The books are well worth a read.

I guess I'm the only one then who found the films rubbish? I watched the subtitles versions being forced by the Mrs, I just don't understand what all the fuss is about. As she works in Arts we watch a lot of foreign films, but these just did nothing for me...

This thread is talking about the Hollywood remake not the original swedish films.

I went to see this last night, and it was pretty good. I absolutely love the books, but I didn't fall in love with either this, or the original Swedish movie. I thought Noomi Rapace was better as Salander, but on the whole the Hollywood film was decent.

I would give it:

7.5

I thought this was good, the style and cinematography was definitely a step-up on the Swedish versions which have a bit of a made for TV feel.

I like the original Mikael more in this film, but I think Daniel Craig's persona is more suited for the next two films if that makes sense. The Swedish Mikael has a bit of an accidental hero feel about him which I like in Dragon Tattoo but I don't rely buy him as the investigative genius of the latter two films. I also thought Rooney Mara was excellent as Lisbeth, not better or worse than Noomi Rapace but different.

Things I didn't like:

-How long it takes for Mikael and Lisbeth to meet and the comparative lack of time they share on screen.
-The end sequence with Wennerstrom's bank account goes on far too long, I like the short and sweet version in the Swedish film.
-The very final scene, urgh.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I'm thinking of seeing the remake in the cinema soon but haven't seen the original.

Is it recommended that I see the original first?

Fincher doing the remake says that it will be good though. Are both the films shot-for-shot replicas?
