Revised: Upgrade HD5850 to GTX570?

I think a 5850 would handle 1080p just fine. (Dependant on game)

Maybe look for a cheap 2nd hand 5850 and go xfire? And save the cash for a cpu/mobo/ram upgrade in 3-6months?

Far Cry 3 is out in March I think!

I Hope it is ;), I believe it's the same engine as Far cry 2 so no problem there !

I loved the way you could wander virtually anywhere in FC2 (fantastic seem less maps) Lets hope they sort out the game play though.

Yes as Said, Just get the new card, the MSI twin frozer oc 448 would be my choice, You will get that for £200 in the next couple of weeks, sell your old 5850 for £100 and Your laughing ;)

Or this, if you can recoup some cash from selling your 5850, why not buy a new card. Every one likes shiny new things! ;)

if i could sell my card for that, that leaves 450 then spend 250 on i5 with the z68 mobo i spotted, that leaves 200 for a 6950 or the 2GB 560ti and i would be selling my AMD for roughly the same as the card. would i be able to keep my 4GB RAM and just put it into the new setup?

No idea on the ram, but I doubt it unless its ddr3?

Anyway ram is so cheap this days.

The GTX 570 will eat a 6950 for breakfast, less vram or not. Doesn't matter. A 570 will trade blows with a 6970 but beats it in BF3 which is all I care about. ATI cards are better for multi-gpu setups though.

I'm pretty sure my PSU could handle the 6950 as i have had no problems with my 5850 and that is 500w required. i have tried the online psu calculator and it says my rig doesn't even require 500w to run

Have You listened to a word people have said ?

What's a 2GB 560ti ??? It's a toy card compared to the "448" You have fallen right into the Memory Hype BS

Then your have to do some home work to see if the ram is compatible with that mobo, most probably it is, but dont quote me.

so would you advise me to upgrade everything if i can? my cpu, mobo, gpu i have my windows 7 64 bit already. or should i just chill the f out a bit and just wait to see whatever comes on a major sale first?

The only thing I'd change my 5850 for is a GTX 580 or 6990...

Garusan can i ask what your performance is like in skyrim with your rig? obviously your gaming at 1080p and you have a rather large overclock on your i5. but i get terrible frames when in towns they drop below 30. and a lot of people say its my CPU. my GPU is only 45%in use when the frames drop and i know the game is CPU dependant. thanks.

with FXAA and 0x deferred AA I get pretty much a solid 50-60FPS in Skyrim.

Skyrim really benefits from a good CPU, I'd say the Phenom is letting you down a bit.

is that all on ultra? the recommended settings for me is high but i turned FXAA off and AA and still get bad frames in town, out of town i get 75 (my refresh rate) but that's at 1440x900 res.

Nvidia shot themselves in the foot calling it a 560...all the numptys don't realise

It should have been called a GTX 565 or something !
