What do we all do for a living?

Sorry a bit off topic, but what route did you take into becoming an electrician. I'm interested in going into this field but my local college is charging a bomb to get the certificate.

When i did it i just rang around nearly all local companies asking if they were taking on apprentices or anything similar, eventually i got a start and they paid for my first 2 years of college, unfortunately i got laid off after 2 years with them but i paid for the 3rd year myself and found another job by doing the same as i did when i started just as a mate not an apprentice

To those of you in the RAF, what's it like? I'm considering talking with my parents about it. (I'm 19 years old and don't want to sit in a call center all day! :()

It's the best thing I ever did. It's definitely not for everyone though.

Hopefully have time to answer more tomorrow, if you want more details now though then check the british armed forces discussion thread - there's loads of recruitment talk in there.

I believe that my job title this week is Infrastructure Consultant for an international IT company ...

This means I get to tell Technical/Solution architects that they are wrong and what they have come up with is unsupportable (or doesn't follow our standards) and hence they need to do it again and also provide assistance to 3LS/Projects when they get stuck or want advice.

It wouldn't astonish me to discover that I know you or have at least put some mouth words in your direction, maybe five or six. Are you a contrary fellow, prone to issues of the mind and so forth?

I would be surprised if I know someone in Auckland. :) But you never know.. I am prone to issues of the mind but I don't share those too widely.

Originally hired to sit behind a phone and inform the public what to do if they have found a racing pigeon, if they've done everything right I locate the owner on our database and get a report sent out to the finder and owner of the pigeon so that the pigeon can be recovered. Hell in Summer, dull in Winter.

I'm being trained how to do other things at the moment due to people retiring.
