At what level do you get your ship/companions, and how do companion missions work?

Do you just tell them to go off and learn crafting/gathering/mission skills, come back in a few hours and they're done?

And what are gathering/crafting like in comparison to wow (sorry to keep bringing that up...).

~LVL15 you get your ship from your class story (you can do it later depending on how you play the game).

Companion I got as a Sourcerer at lvl9. He is a levelling companion and also can be used in crafting. You get one with your ship at 15 who is pretty much a servant for crew skills. THe others I'm not sure about as I'm not that far.

In the menu for them, you can set them to go do missions for gathering style skills. Such as archaeology (mining from wow) or biochem (herbalism from wow). Quite straight forward and easy.

They come back generally between 1m-30m from what i've heard. The low level gathering and crafting taking less time, etc.

Compared to WoW from what I've seen is that most gathering skills line up with one or two crafting. Such as archaeology and artifice. Artifice being the "blacksmithing" where you can make items and enhancements. Archaeology being how you gather the mats (mining essentially). Another mission skill is treasure hunting, which goes with the above (I chose these three). It involves sending companion off for anything to lockboxes, to gifts, to rare artifacts and so on.

I've earned no money yet through this. I am skilling up and waiting until the world sorts itself out and people know what they want. I think in terms of making things its always good to be able to craft good stuff for yourself or guildies.

For money making you could chose 2 gathering skills and a mission style one which brings back rewards. I'd read up on it, but I chose my skills as a profession and somehtying i want to keep, rather than earning a fast buck. If it pays off down the line (I'm sure it will somehow) then so be it.

It's not level based - it's class based and where you are in your story - however

You will have 1 companion by the time you finish the class quests on your origin world

You will have your ship once you complete the capital planet class quests (coruscant or dromund kass) - at this point you get your second companion (ship robot) - actually it's 3rd companion for some...

Then depending on your class you unlock the other companions at different times - I won't give any spoilers to this as may ruin the story, but it can vary hugely between classes - the Consular for example doesn't get a 4th companion (inc ship) until Act 2 - whereas the Trooper has one much much earlier!

But there is no set level, if you grind PvP from level 10-50 you would not have a ship even though level 50 as you did no capital planet class quests :)

Thanks guys. Can you unlearn skills and learn a new one?

Yes you can

My 2 credits worth, when sending out your companion READ what you are sending them to get, I spent a fortune on companion gifts and cloth with underworld trading before I realised it was not "random" but you had a choice : underworld fabrics/underworld metals/companion gifts.

Yes silly I know but we all learn :P

also dont waste money on gathering skills, no need to be lazy and go farm them your self while questing :)

In comparison to Wow, the first thing you'll notice is that it is not a massive coin sink. You can level with pretty few credits just on missions(slicing rewards credits for example).

I'm Armortech, scavenging(I just pick up metal as I go, I don't need to go out of my way to gather, you don't need to, unlike WoW.) and underground trading which rewards me with blueprints for armour or at the very least companion gifts.

You can send out your companion(s), anytime and anywhere(click on companion button, then icon next to craft skill).

I like this system, its ingenious really the way you can see 2 of your companions working on the workbench making you armour is a nice touch :).

Right, I hope I get a reply this time.

1) My main is on Chuundar, can fellow OCUK'ers add him, name is Ruben-Nan. He is a Sith Jugg.

2) My alt is on Killeon Jarro (sp?) Jedi Cons, named Rikku, can you also add her please?

3) What crew skills would you suggest for my Jedi?

4) Have fun out there.

5) Reply damn it...

Sorry bud I reside on Frosclaw and am your sworn enemy, but at least I replied :P

I would suggest Artifice (make crystals hilts enchantments and relics (I think)) but I would first ask your guild , u have no idea what a pain/expense it is to get crystals here lol yet I am waiting for fellow guildies to level up which will happen in time I am sure. :)

If your a guild man ask the guildies what would be the most useful skills for the guild, personally I would just pick something that would be interesting and useful for your main.

I'm a bounty hunter so I make my own armour and intend to kit myself out with all my own gear.

I picked Biochem, The Biochem gathering (cant remember the name for some reason) and diplomacy. Think both biochem and the gathering one are around 100 at the moment and diplomacy is around 50, only level 21 so dont have the cash to take it any further :(

Just now done a quick run with guild guys again and we wiped em done void star (twice in a row) and both times they never got passed the first door while we ran through like a steam train, I was on me trooper level 22, the rest were 25, 27, and 40, the other team has 2 level 50's in.

But I said it before its a marathon not a sprint, we will get a lot of levels 50 in time and we will dominate the arenas.

One thing we don't accept is people crying in guild chat they getting owned, if it happens learn, level and improve! (well except if it me :p)

What's your in game nick Wab, or anyone who can invite?

Bioanalysis

Biochem is great I picked it for my healer thinking I can have stims/medpacks ready for the guild as I am a healer and it made sense... didnt realise at the time that the reusable were locked to biochem and probably better suited as a Tank/DPS toon... still made some nice money with implants and can still make plenty of medpacks and stims for the guild for raids - just not been as useful for solo'ing.

If you look in your Codex at the professions it tells you which ones compliment each other.

So, for example, I took Artifice to make myself some lightsaber upgrades and relics. And to provide the mats for that I took Archaeology and Treasure Hunting.

Soon realised that all my credits were being spent on my profs and I didn't have anything to show for it expect having 150 skill points in each one.

I have just been focusing on Treasure Hunting now, got it to about 380 so far, as the items that you get from that sell for a fair bit to vendors (2-5k).
