Hi, I'm putting my machine together and am very hesitant at the point of pushing the tension arm back down to secure the CPU in place. I get it two thirds of the way down and then there is a lot of resistance, I wasn't expecting so much. Its probably normal, but I'm not taking any chances.
The CPU is definately the right way round, i.e the little arrow is in place and also the notches on the CPU are dropped down into the mobos.

Am I good to just push the arm down firmly?

DISCLAIMER - I understand I use OC advice at my own discretion and risk!

It should fit pretty intuitively, but it also should have a fair amount of tension in there keeping it firmly in position :)

Now you know for next time what works! :D

the first time i did it i thought i was going to snap the cpu in half - but alas - it was the correct method and it all worked out well :)

Thank your stars all CPUS have heat spreaders now a days :D

I still remember the horrible feeling of tensioning down a heatsink onto the exposed die of my AMD T'Bird :) and earlier CPUs.

Heard many stories of people chipping the actual die or whatever it's called.

So far so good....

External test build seemed ok.

A few questions I've noted, pointers/ answers for any appreciated

*The silver motherboard panel, on the back of the case, is loose. I've got the standoffs (*9) in their place and tightened in (using the standoffs and the small 'B' bolts supplied with the case, I'm assuming no washers are required to protect from static here).

*Which sockets to use for 2 4GB 1600Ghz? I've got one in each blue socket of the separate channels.

*In terms of plugging components into the mobo - is it safe to plug things in if the sockets look correct... do I want to be checking each connection and reffering to the mobo manual??

So many cables....

Just push it in till it will go no further, you will feel it snap into place.

Channels 1 & 3, refer to manual to find out which they are.

You shouldn't need washers due to, I think, motherboard manufacturers leaving a few mm around the holes for the screw head to sit without issue.

Saying that, I've always tended to use some small generic insulating washers just in case.
