A New years resolution is normally something you do to improve yourself, a commitment for the new year, for example it could be to quit smoking or lose weight.

This fb status is a joke, because resolution is also used to describe the number of pixels on a screen.

Resolution is how many pixels there are on displays. He's making a play on words. My display resolution is 1920x1080 for example, because there's 1920 pixels across and 1080 pixels down.
