That looks legit. The 580 3gb beaten by the 580 1.5gb. Of course.
And OcUK themselves have proved that BF3 needs more than 1280mb ram at 1080p with 4xAA.
So yeah.
Well also take it from me, when I was testing Crysis 2 it was pretty much useing all the memory about 1255mb, no chronic stutter min fps 23.7 av 47.5 fps.
Why should the card not use it's resources to the max ?, something else is wrong if the game or card calls for resources that are not available, this is then surely all about optimization that the smart driver and game coders sort out, otherwise people with a 512mb card would not be able to play at all
I suspect it's the lack of optimising that is hurting those MP BF3 gamers as looking at the SP benchies it seems much like most other games regarding memory, DX11 and Win 7 will also no doubt be eating precious resources![]()
There is only so much you can optimise and there is no other game comparable with those gfx with that many players and those sized maps is there.
Also with all the GFX card sales it must have generated why would they rush to fix it![]()
Metro 2033, Crysis 2 with DX11 patch, Battlefield 3 and Starcraft 2.
All at max at 1080p.
Edit: this was with a 6950 unlocked to a 6970 with 1.15ghz on the core, vs a 1.5gb 580 with 1 ghz on the core, using a 5ghz i5 2500k and 8gb of hyperx ram.
Average and max FPS in monitoring (afterburner) were within 1-2 FPS of each other, but minimums dropped by about 20fps on the 580. And there were visible FPS spikes during gameplay. Checked afterburner logs and the VRAM usage on these games with the AMD card maxed out at between 1.5gb and 1.8gb dependent on the game, whereas it was hitting the limit on the 580's VRAM. These results were under water and were consistent. I was rather annoyed that I had to turn AA down on the 580 to make it playable
