Need a Gaming Monitor

Hey,

I'll be moving to Europe in the summer and I need a good gaming monitor that is easily available for purchase anywhere in Europe. The requirements for this monitor are as follows:
Code:
  - 60hz
  - no input lag or very low input lag
  - the less ghosting the better
  - HDMI input
  - has to be 20" or larger
And that's it. Native resolution doesn't matter... even if it's lower than 1080p that doesn't bother me.

Please advise me on what's available in Europe that covers my needs.

Let me just say that it's very important to me that there is extremely low input lag and no ghosting because I got the ASUS VH242H and I was disappointed by the amount of input lag and ghosting that this monitor had. So any monitor you can suggest that is better than the VH242H would be great.

To be fair, an IPS screen would just drive the price up and he isn't asking for great viewing angles or above avarage colours..
If you're just looking for a fast 20"+ sceen the Iiyama ProLite E2473HDS-B1 is a pretty good deal. Can be found online for ~£150 (or €165.. UK is expensive when it comes to monitors). It's fast, it's cheap, it's 24". Viewing angles are pretty bad though (even for a TN panel).

If you want to go for a Dell though, go for the U2312HM. A lot cheaper than it's 24" 'big brother', lowest input lag of all of them and somehow despite being 23" it's cheaper than the 21.5" model (more popular size I guess).

I'll look into the Iiyama monitor you suggested. In the meantime, I don't care as much about accurate colors since I won't be doing any important work on this PC. It's strictly for gaming and I don't want to spend too much money on it. Just looking for a fast monitor that will do the job.

Thanks!

On the subject of looking for a gaming monitor, and the fact that my thread has been overlooked, I'm going to ask here (hope you don't mind OP). Here's one of the questions which I'm seeking an answer to from my thread:

'I don't have a Sli setup, and don't plan on ever going Sli, but am I mistaken for thinking that because the refresh rate is twice as fast on this monitor, that running a game at 40-60 frames per second will still be a smoother experience than it is on a 60Hz monitor?'

Thanks for any help.

If ghosting and low input lag is so important, how comes you're only looking at 60hz screens? 120Hz screens would be much better for gaming.
Mainly because I will be gaming on a laptop and it's hard to get more than 60 fps with a laptop in Battlefield 3 or other similar games. That is the main reason. In my home I have a 120hz setup and it works great for me but when I'm on vacation in Europe, I can't bring my desktop with me so I'll be using a laptop. Anyway, it'd be nice if someone can recommend a nice 60hz monitor with an HDMI input.

If you have a 120hz display and you are running a game at 60 fps it will still be choppy.

So 60FPS on a 120Hz monitor will look like 60FPS on a 60Hz monitor, despite the refresh rate being twice as fast?

In terms of trailing it will appear similar to a 60Hz monitor with rapid pixel response times, yes. However; it will feel a lot smoother due to the mouse inputs being polled twice as often and lower latency.

I think it can be a nice bonus, certainly, but it depends on the game title and your sensitivity. Really if you're comparing a 23" matte 120Hz TN panel monitor with a 23" matte 60Hz IPS panel monitor and you're running your game at 60fps the image quality and subtle colour tone additions brought by the IPS panel may be more desirable. Tough call though - entirely a matter of opinion. :)

Okay, one more question (last one, I promise :)) are there any 120Hz monitors out there with the overall image quality on-par with an IPS display? Would the Planar really be the best bet in the 23 inch 120Hz catagory? (hoping you know some other 120Hz monitors of note!)

Thanks for the replies! And again OP, sorry for the hijack :D

That kind of comparison was drawn with side-by-side testing on my S27A750 and 950 reviews. It depends what you're looking for. No TN panel will match the shade variety and accurate, consistent colours of an IPS. The richness and vibrancy, though, has a lot to do with the screen surface and the Samsung monitors compare favourably to the Dell IPS models in that department - and are on par with the impressive Apple LED Cinema Display. The Planar models aren't very popular in the UK so I can't say much about them - but the screen surface, being matte, would limit the image wow factor in comparison to any decent IPS panel monitor.
