With the budget hotels offering some good deals at the moment, I am looking to go for a drinking session somewhere for my 25th, with a few of my friends.

Birthday is in March. I have to plan now as one of my friends, and myself both work shifts :(

Just looking for places to go really, in both city and pubs/bars/food recommendations. More alternative like rock/metal than the mainstream though.

London - too expensive for hotels and drinks/food,
Birmingham - I go there all of the time :)

Edit: I should say UK only

Cheers,

Newcastle? I went to University there and the night life is great, plenty of good bars and in my experience not expensive, compared to Leeds/Manchester.

Glasgow and Edinburgh both have great night life. Glasgow maybe slightly pips Edinburgh as all the bars and clubs are close together, edin is a bit more scattered about

We do this quiet a lot as myself and friends like something little to look forward to on them slow days at work. We are also into alternative music.

Liverpool - You have the Krazyhouse, which was very good fun when I last went (February 2011). Hotels are a bit of a pain to find if you want budget. Mind you it is a little far for us to travel (live in Nottingham) regularly. Maybe try renting an apartment for the night/weekend as can be cheaper pp.

Newcastle (as bove) - You have Legends, which I also had fun at, again a little far but I was staying with a friend so didn't have to bother with hotels either.

Leeds - We are going in February to the Cockpit. staying in a premiere Inn which is costing us £20+£5 petrol + £2 parking each (8 of us going).

Will report back what it is like :)

I live in Manchester and much prefer it over Nottingham, Birmingham, Edinburgh.

Plenty of bars and clubs to cater for all tastes. And very rarely do you see any trouble in the city centre.

Other than that Liverpool always has a load of v pretty girls, if you can stand the accent and the possibility of a bit of trouble.

If you like Rock/Metal music, then am sure Nottingham would be a good nightout for you, as there are plenty of pubs /bars and they have Rock City Nightclub :)

Personally I love Chesterfield, as its a great atmosphere, loads of bars and nightclubs. Plus there are more women then men out at the weekends ;)

Nottingham is too close to my homecity (Leicester) :p - but I would get a free bed for the night lol

Leeds - been there. FUEL is the place to be ;) - my ex lives in Leeds so I avoid the place now though lol.

Newcastle - hotels are too expensive £50 a night for Premier Inn/Travelodge!

Liverpool is tempting

Newcastle is awesome
Liverpool is too
as is Manchester

I've lived in Leeds for 9 years, there's plenty of Rock around. As already said, cockpit and FUEL. Not sure if its still on but Rio's used to be £12 all you can drink on sat night and that had a rock / metal room. You can get 2 JD and coke at once... that was a brutal night!

I used to love all you can drink places like Bondi beach and heaven and hell. £7 for endless vodka red(enter name of fake redbull)

I don't understand this notion? I've had a lot more trouble in clubs/bars during my last two years in Reading for example than I ever had during the 3 years at University in Liverpool.

Liverpool has just had a load of money invested in it. If you're looking for a good night out, you can't get better. That's including all types of music fans. Maybe see what's on at the local venues in case a band/comedian you enjoy is playing there? Good shops and restaurants. Loads of history with all of the museums being free.
