Traffic stops, I guess the type of car does make a difference.

Hey all,

Living where I live and driving what I drive I expected to be pulled over on the odd occasion, but since I bought my new car in June I've been pulled over 9 times!! 9, in 6 months!

It's not been all bad, last weekend I was pulled over and the copper pulled up along side me and just asked me if it was my car and what I do blah blah, and told me to enjoy myself which was nice. I think they were genuinely interested in the car rather than in any criminal activity I may have been doing.

I have been pulled over twice where I think it was justified, once I pulled away from a petrol station at full pelt, just because I enjoy the acceleration and noise of my V10! I was pulled by an undercover Fiesta of all things :D

I was also pulled in a very dodgy area of my town in the early hours of the morning, which must have just screamed "drug dealer" or something when my car rolled through, which is fair enough I guess.

But all the other times it has just been for no real reason, all they ask is "What's your name?", "Where do you live?", "Is this your car?" and then let me on my way. None check my tyres which are bordering on illegal, none notice the bottles of alcohol in the back which my friends leave and request a breath test or anything. When I've asked why they stopped me they generally say they wanted to make sure it wasn't stolen/it was my car :(

In my early driving life I never got pulled over when driving my Mums/Dads/Brothers/Sisters cars, but as soon as I got my first BMW (325Ci) I was stopped fairly often, sometimes justified ;) I had that for nearly two years and have only had my M5 for half a year and have already been pulled more times than I did in my E46 :(

It's getting quite annoying now, every time I see a police car behind me I'm preparing for the fact I might be pulled over.

Do any of you experience this much? Have you noticed that what you are driving makes a difference?

Not really a point to this thread I suppose, more of a mini rant or what not :(

Didn't you used to always get pulled over in your 325 as well?

Never been pulled over no matter what was driving, where I was driving it, at what time and how many of us were in the car.

As I said last time you complained about this I remain largely convinced its about driving style not car.

A police car behind you can only see how you drive not who you are...

9 months in driving my E60 M5 and I've not been stopped once. Driving around Watford, North West London, etc etc... they obviously just dislike you!

Only ever been pulled when ive been up to no good, handful of times in over ten years but ive not had any real standout cars

Maybe you drive like a tool without realising it?
Possible, but I always try to be sensible around town, country roads and motorways are the only time I use the cars performance and I've never been pulled on either.

I did get pulled in my 325Ci a few times, but no where near as often as over these past 6 months.

Yeah maybe it is my driving style, but I don't think I do anything out of the ordinary, I don't speed much, I don't cut people up or drive inconsiderately in any way (or not that I am aware).

If it were, then surely they'd mention that as the reason for pulling me, but they haven't on any of these occasions
Did you fit the dodgy wheels?
No I didn't in the end, the import duty and tax took the price to much more than even the ACS let alone the BBMs. Plus everyones hatred of them sort of put me off also :(

You dont by chance drive an e39 m5 in the stoke-on-trent area do you?
Nope E60 in a small town called Nuneaton.

iirc OP drives an e60 m5.

Ahh ok. That's that then. I just noticed his location was Midlands (wide area i know). I did however see someone driving an e39 M5 like a complete and utter tool in broad day light and fairly heavy traffic the other day. Undertaking etc. I thought maybe i could have helped to have pinpointed the ops problem lol

You'll be glad the day it (might) get stolen and they pull the scum over with the same excuse they give you, you might get your lovely car back unscathed!

Only been pulled driving like a *** in my old Saxo, but that was justified.

Even on the bike with a silly loud baffle-less exhaust they don't look at me, the BMW is fairly inconspicuous.

Very true, but not sure if I'd want it back depending on how they treated it. Not sure how easy these are to steal actually, without the keys I would have thought it's nearly impossible.

I've never once been pulled over. I'm not on my best behaviour a great deal of the time either. I think it must just be our area or something.

I was only ever driving around with blood on my hood.
Ran over one little lady and the police where there
they said "we're putting you in jail, now stop right there"

yes I did rhyme there and there :(

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'

I find it odd that driving around in a sporty little Clio, quite often at odd hours that I never get pulled over.

One or two evenings, I've even gone as far as taking the **** (although within the law) when I know a Police car is behind me, just to test the water as it were - still nothing.

The last time I was pulled over, I was in the ST, it was about 1AM and he pulled me over because he'd seen me swerve around a pot hole. When he approached my passenger window, not 50 meters from my house, he said "Sorry, I had no idea who it was - I, uhhh noticed you swerve..." I didn't know the Copper, but explained I was dodging a pot hole and he let me on my way immediately.

I think the time before that, I was driving our old Bedford pickup and ended up with a prohibition order pretty much "just 'cause" although an excessively noisy exhaust was stated. The pickup was used exclusively as a rolling skip and looked ropey as hell, but we kept it through MOTs every year. The Traffic Officer stated he pulled me because it didn't look fit to be on the road.

Apart from that, I think just about every time I've been pulled over has been limited to the first year of driving in my little Corsa B, and even then it was only a couple.

Asian male driving flash car in getting pulled over a lot shocker.

I don't know if the Nuneaton Asian wideboy krew are anything like the Manchester Asian wideboy krew but if they are similar (and given that it appears to be broadly the same everywhere else, that seems likely) then it is absolutely no surprise that they are the subject of heightened Police attention.

Xmas eve took my count for being pulled over to 2 ever, this time for overtaking a marked police car while doing 85 (yes, I know).

Unless you look particularly unsuited to driving your car it will be your driving rather than anything else, they can run an anpr check without pulling you over. If it's just stop and on your way then they're probably weighing you up, they may have a minor indiscretion they could pin on you if they were being picky, but unless you're an idiot then they won't bother.

Nah in Nuneaton they're no where near as "flash" as I noticed they were when I lived in Manchester, in this area it's more crappy little sheds or the "Nova Crew" haha! But they just generally hang out in the Asda car park and don't cause much mischief at all.

Manchester I remember a few flash cars racing up and down Deansgate outside of my flat... which was just stupid. I can understand being pulled over for that, but I generally consider myself as a considerate driver.

I know what you mean though, "fit the stereotype" and all...

I got pulled a few times in my old evo.
I had a 3/4 sized number plate on the front though.
After about 3 weeks I didn't get pulled for it again in the next 2 years that I owned it.

I once got pulled in Bath city centre. Copper said we looked suspicious. Two young guys in a high powered sports car. It was a peugeot 405 mi16. hardly a high powered sports car!
Fortunately it was dark and he didn't spot my borderline legal tyres :)
