Traffic stops, I guess the type of car does make a difference.

I disagree

I hate to tell you this, but I think I'm more qualified to state what my intention is that you are.

It could be someone who does it full time for a living, not volunteers? :p

Why does how much we're paid make a difference? I'll admit that Specials don't do everything a regular does, we don't do in depth investigations but then Hampshire are moving towards dedicated teams so that regulars don't do much of that any more either.

Ain't specials basically the way up to being a police officer?

Are you paid burnsy? Work weekends, so I am guessing you see plenty of night life in what you do?

A special is apart of the police force.

I'm not paid, but yes I see plenty of nightlife and the after effects. I'm a deployable unit just like any other the control room has on their system.

He never claimed to be a regular police officer. A Special Constable is a warranted constable. He has the same powers, wears the same uniform, does some of the same jobs.

He was asked if he was a policeman, which he is, and he even added quite clearly that he was a Special.

Indeed. I never claim to be a regular, in fact I have no intention to ever becoming a regular.

I think it's quite reasonable to say that someone who is a special is not 'a policeman'. A special is not a regular police officer and regular is what most people will be alluding to, not that you occassionally walk around doing the same things. Though in this particular case Burnsy made it quite obvious.

I'm not sure I see the difference. If there is a fight where someone is getting their head kicked in, I don't think they particularly care if a regular or special comes to help. They'll still get assistance and the offenders will still get nicked.

At the end of the day I don't really care what people's feelings are towards specials. The only people's opinions I care about are the other police officers (regular and special) who I work with and they are appreciative of what I do, especially when it's getting a 10 page statement from someone at 3am or being the first to turn up when their prisoner is kicking off and they're single crewed.

So far I've not been pulled over once (21, been driving since 17) which I find quite surprising as it seems most people my age have been pulled over at least once, either through fault of their own or just "random" stops.

Perhaps you have a drugs marker somewhere on the police computer? I'm sure that you've posted on here about being stopped and searched after 'friends' had been smoking drugs in your old car?

I've only been pulled over once that I can think of where I was minding my own business and driving normally and that was because I was driving a nice sports car, past midnight at the head of a line of boy racers in Leicester, lost trying to find a house party my wife was at so I could take her home. Rozzas said "I looked out of place" which was fair. Other than that it's usually because I was being a dick but to be fair always let off with at worst a smack on the wrist at best a 15 minute discussion about my car.

Yeah that was my 325 :( But I gave that to my sister and she ain't been pulled once, I was told once the car changes owner the markers are wiped. Think it stays on the Driver though?

Intelligence markers are also a possibility, but to find that out an officer needs to do a vehicle check first, which requires them to have some sort of inkling that something might be wrong.

My bad read it as that. What makes MPS's target cars :p

No worries :)

They are now target cars due to the wolf in sheeps clothing appeal. I.e. they pull the mps badges off and it looks like a standard mazda to most people. So they can go about their crime undercover almost. The days of stolen flash quick cars for being used in crime are all but gone. Yes they are stolen for resale/parts but rarely used in burgs etc.

Clearly we have emotions floating about but lets keep things civil and on topic.

At the OP, I work on the force and I would stop cars but only with reason be it manner of driving, defect etc and if up market cars are driving around at particular times of night then I will pull them over now and again as a routine stop to see if driver and car match for insurance etc and if so then they are on their way with good wishes. Many are appreciative of the stop.

Pulling over for the hell of it or to wind up was never my thing.

What area of Nuneaton do you live in? I live in Bedworth, and travel to, from and around Nuneaton a lot, but I've only been pulled 3 times in 5 years of driving.

I hardly ever see any traffic police, just the normal bobby's in panda cars?

To many feds in this thread and some pretend feds too, it's gone down hill this place, you won't take me down coppa...s(and coppa ish)! ;)

I've been pulled over once - in a Mini 1275GT in 1998 with 3 teenage passengers near christmas at around 11pm. Was just a random check I think. Still a faff having to take documents into the station.

Never been pulled, driving classic mini coopers or an MX5 all while looking fairly young and often driving at silly times at night. I didn't even get pulled when I went through a red light next to a police car (the camera caught me, mind :o)

Only ever been pulled once and that was at 4am during the festive season a few years ago, I was breathalysed and sent on my way.

Also had a police car follow me for a few miles when I took a small roundabout enthusiastically, think they just made some radio checks to make sure the car wasn't nicked and was insured etc...

Lol, I think its fairly obvious that I didn't mean your intentions, but rather " posts will always rub some people up the wrong way".

From speaking to full time Police officers they are very appreciative of the helping hand but there is a definite and clear distinction between the two in terms of skill and responsibility, its another part of the reason I declined. I am sure it varies from place to place though.

I got pulled over a fair bit in my (bright yellow, modified) minivan back when I was at uni.
Iirc , not been pulled over in anything since (unless I deserved it) other than once in my modified e34 525i late at night pulling out of a car park in Reading at about 2am.
Then it was just a quick "have you been drinking?" then sent on my way. :)
