Is this a good idea?

I have never had a problem with bethere in about 5-6 years of using them. But sky are giving 6 months free and then £7.50 a month. Add to that, i get anytime+ and it starts to become appealing.

But i don't want to lose my reliability and or my decent enough speeds.

Stick to what you know really.

Im with bethere on the Be-Unlimited package, we moved from sky due to constant disconnects with 5.5down and .768 up, now we get 14down and 1.75up. much better.

I was afraid i'd lose speed. I am only getting between 5 and 6 meg anyway, don't want that dropping :(

Well I went from adsl24 to sky LLU. It was a complete nightmare getting the order through, it took 3 attempts, and their 'exec' team in the end to sort it. Their 'first contact' phone support is complete pants in my experience.
Saying that though, since I have been set up I love it, double the speed of my old adsl connection, no slowdowns, no problems and a lot cheaper.

Sky is cheaper but to get a really good deal you have to take the phone aswell (svbn). I was wondering would be become what its parent company became.. traffic managed? I loved my o2 connection (16mb down 1.3 up) but moving house made me choose o2 (80quid installation), BT (24 month contract to get free install) or sky for free. Ok I have 6mb down 750kb up opposed top what o2 quoted 10mb down 1.2up. My connection with sky has been rock solid and better than my old o2 connection at my old property.

The two people I know who use Sky both complain of slow speeds. I would stick with bethere

you say slow but do they have sky llu or sky connect which is a bt product and that is horrible. Where I used to live has just had its exchange enable for sky and I wouldve jumped at the chance to save money if I still lived there.

I think you need to check samknows exchange search to find out who is available at their exchance.

I used a Sky Connect connection over Xmas and it was pretty good! :p

I didn't touch peer to peer, only direct downloads.

I would hazard a guess that the exchange makes a big difference to Sky like a lot of people. Everyone I know who has Virgin has complained over Christmas that their service is now so rubbish they will be moving away - everybody has different experiences. OP either stick with Be or go to Sky because you want to save money, tie in with your existing Sky services (anytime+) or if not stick with Be. Simple as....I changed because we saved a fortune by integrating all our services, about £30 a month!

My exchange is sky LLU so think it is worth it? I already have sky TV and a sky phone anyway.

its worth ringing sky to get a line speed estimate, mind you can still do this online i think, whats your current line attenuation and noise margin

I personally feel it's good value for money at £7.50 a month for totally unlimited internet. You do get what you pay for, but when it's tied into anytime+ etc. it's a fantastic deal. I get 6 meg down and 1 meg up which is exactly the same as I got with BT which was costing £40 a month including phone rental. So I'm very happy. My line won't really do any better as we have aluminium lines on our estate...

I have had sky at two different addresses with no issues, currently sync at 18mbit and I have never had contention issues even at peak times.

I was going to go with Sky,when I called Be about a mac they matched the deal Sky were offering so I'm very happy, try it give Be a call if you have been with them a few years you should be able to get a good deal from them

Your line quality won't magically change (for better or worse) when moving from Be to Sky (assuming no errors occur during the move over). Sky LLU is decent and if you want to save money it's probably a fairly safe move. However, Be are a brilliant ISP and you'll almost certainly get better customer service and customisation options with them.

i have Be, parents have sky. ususally sky is okay but there have been times where its been horrid, line was getting about 1mbit al one stage and sky wouldnd reset the line profile, the pain involved in getting them to da sa was just such a massive pain. they now get about 8 which they are happy with but given they used to get 8mbit on an ADSL1 connection from tiscali getting 8 on an ADSL2+ line is rather poor.

for them thats fine and not worth the pain but i certainly wouldnt move to sky.
