3D is on the decline going by industry reports, this includes cinema and home entertainment like games and TV.
It's one of those things that is hard to call, there has only really been a couple of REALLY 3d films, and a glut of pathetic 3d added after effect films in the aftermath of Avatar. Will we see a glut of 3d from the start films start to appear 2-4 years after Avatar, quite possibly. People see Avatar, want 3d, then see one of the random crap 3d films, a bunch of them, and think 3d is dead. however a LOT of 3d tv's are being sold the content is lacking real growth now but it depends on if the content is just a couple years away.
Plenty of people buying new tv's are getting 3d models simply because there isn't much reason not to, glasses can be expensive with proper 3d but again if people like the content in a couple years and have the tv, they can buy more glasses.
I'm only for 3d in that it finally meant 120hz monitors, woo. I tried 3d, I get it, I can see it, I understand what it does, I still don't care about it, 120hz I care about a lot.
Same goes for tv, last screen was a 100hz screen but one of the earlier and not great ones, next screen will certainly be a "faster" screen over a bog standard one and by that time all the faster screens will be 3d anyway.
Really I always thought 3d would have a short boom, a long bust and potentially real long term usage after that.
3D movies and gaming look really bad. If you go to Disney land check out the 3D cinema, that is real 3D with snakes and all sorts inches from your face. The 3D becomes so intense with the snakes you do close your eyes as it is amazing and kind of scary. I have no idea what has happened to 3D in cinemas/games as it is really rubbish compared to with I have seen. No idea why they are not the same as Disney land stuff. Also this was about 10 years ago I went with the kids.
that will be whatever it is they mix with the oxygen in Disneyland/etc
