built my new rig yesterday awesome work from ocuk as per. I have the gigabyte z58 board what sort of settings should i change to reach 5ghz, iv got the artic cooler 13 extreme and its nice and cool so cooling shouldn't be a problem but will buy a watercooler if things get a little hot.

What should I change to reach that 5ghz oc!

a 5ghz stable overclock is a tall order that will require a very special chip and/or some very good cooling....set the multi to 50 and you will need a vcore bump.. how good your chip is depemds on how much.

Sorry yes z68 ha, the chip can go to 5.6 on water so im hoping to get fairly high

Maybe a cherry chip could but there few and far between and as for stable forget it...Ive had mine at 5.5ghz for a snapshot 1m superpie run to get me to number 9 on Simon Maltbys 5ghz+ list but that's all it is.....a snapshot no stability what so ever.. As I said previous you'll be lucky to get 5 ghz stable which is superb for a chip that costs £250.

Just for a little help before making a stupid choice, I had an FP13 Pro on my 2600k before the H80, even at 4.4ghz it hit into the 70's, it maxed out (IMO) at 4.6ghz with a relatively low voltage (1.29v) giving temps into the low 80's.

I will bet you my house if you clock that chip to 5.6ghz on that cooler you will set fire to something.

Set your memory to the XMP profile, then change the Multi to 40. No need to change anything else for now.
Download Intel Burn Test, CPU-Z and Core Temp.

Open CPU-Z to monitor you vcore under load, and Core Temp to monitor temps.
Open IBT set it to 10 runs on Max Stress Level, take a screen shot half way through the 9th run and post it on here, so we can check you volts and temps before going further.
I think that cooler will probably start to struggle with temps around 4.4GHz.

Maybe one in every couple of thousand can do that. Its like picking a random guy and saying he can run as fast as that jamaican dude.:p Never used that cooler, but if its like other Arctic coolers.. 4.8Ghz is stretching it, 5Ghz is probably a dream.

I think the OP went for the Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey RAM.

If that's the case then they'll want to change the DRAM voltage if using the XMP profile.

The XMP profile will use 1.65V and the maximum recommended for Sandy Bridge is 1.575V.

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey will usually run 1600MHz fine at ~1.5V.
