Need a Gaming Monitor

Hmm looks like the Dell U2312HM is an exception to the rule (apparently has <1ms input latency average) - most Dell panels have realworld input latency in the region of 30ms and are NOT acceptable for serious FPS. etc. gaming - tho fine for casual gaming, mmos, etc.

Another thing to note as I saw someone mention laptops earlier in the thread - a lot of laptops do not do dual link DVI output so you may find a laptop unable to drive a 120Hz panel above 60Hz and/or drive very high resolution 60Hz displays.

Even if your only averaging 60fps 120Hz panels have a lot of advantages over 60Hz panels as they tend to be more gaming orientated and typically have lower input latency and far less residual image problems which are even more of an issue for fast paced fps gaming than response time/input latency.

never had any inputlag problems with the DELLs i used - 2407WA, 2209WA, U2311H.

I take it you don't do much online FPS gaming then - as 2 of those have 30+ ms input latency which any reasonable FPS gamer would find an issue and the other while averaging around 10ms has very spiky input latency with frequent hits to 20+ms.

The Dell U2312HM looks like a good candidate. It's available and is not too expensive and it looks like a good monitor but I see it has 8ms of G2G response time. Will there be a lot of ghosting? The Asus VH242H that I tried had 5ms of response time and I absolutely hated the ghosting on that one compared to my 120hz panel.

Also, if I do go for this monitor, can I use a passive DVI to HDMI adapter or does it have to be active (I think I heard that the signal that DVI and HDMI uses is the same so I suppose a passive adapter will work?)

skuko, which monitor do you use?

Oh, and I thought I played a lot but you definitely take the cake lol

DELL u2311h for the past year or two - now i have a Samsung S27A950D. It is quite the difference :)

Wow you must really hate yourself to put yourself through all that with 30+ms input latency :P

(In all seriousness I've tried gaming on the 2407WA and it felt like my mouse was connected to my crosshairs with a rubber band).

to be honest i had the 2407 very long ago, 3-4 ago, so i cannot remeber exactly about the input lag :)

past two years or so, i had the 2209WA and the U2311H, and i honestly can't complain about any serious input lag. now that i have a 120Hz 27" panel, it feels really responsive, so no complaints here either.
