Oh mr purple, is that why my laptop is broke?

I had pretty much the same experience on boxing day with a family friend. She bought a really cheap laptop from there for her grandson for christmas and the hard drive is making a horrible noise. I went with her and they tried telling her it was because it had a virus on it and they wanted her to pay for an anti virus. I said oh really how could it have a bloody virus on it when it hasnt even been connected to the internet (which it hasnt) and he was saying it must have come from a dvd I said well thats funny because it hasnt even got a dvd drive

He was trying to fob me off with all kinds of excuses and I told him I wanted it replaced for new because it is clearly faulty. He told me he cant do that store policy and all that and the warrenty is void because of the virus.

we left and took it to another store where they exchanged it for a new one which they told me they didnt have to do because of store policy etc and tried selling us all kinds of useless crap.

They really do need to sort out their staff and policy's.
Im sure getting treated like this by the company is a violation of peoples human rights lol :D

That is shocking.

Entertaining thread. I must say the "insults" started off as tongue in cheek and just got blown out of proportion

atleast someones got the cajones to agree. theres a lot of brown nosers on this website with sheep mentalities.

There's brown nosing, yes, but communities stick together.

Here we have someone who shared his experience and we agreed with him, then it descended into childish bickering and we lost all respect for the OP. what else do you expect?

This thread is classic internet. Starts off as one thing, has some good discussion, someone goes mental and we can all laugh about it after.

There is nothing wrong with Windows showing just 3/4 Gb free. This is the root of the problem.

theres something wrong when 2.5gb is hardware reserved as its totally unusable memory but half the people on ocuk are know it all and assume the ram is cached by windows and then make this guy out to be an idiot

Wow, would you look at this. I only have 800mb free. My computer must be broken. Quick call the experts...

Calm down, no need to get your panties in a twist. 2.5GB reserved is a little unusual, however given the calibre of the OP I'm not sure I'm going to take that as accurate. So the point of my post was to show that it is possible for a modern operating system to manage RAM well and thus not leave large amounts free doing nothing useful.

Whatever.

I always loved PC World's advert for dual core processors.
You can now download your favourite music and browse the internet AT THE SAME TIME.

What software is that your using ?

open task manager on the performance tab click "resource monitor" its at the bottom and then goto the memory tab

i had an issue once where i had 1.5gb hardware reserved but it was something to do with atis drivers and doing a clean driver install fixed it, never had an issue at all on nvidia cards
