Sounds good to me the worst thing about the ipods I had was the HDD breaking after being in my pocket. Thats why my only remaining apple product is a 1st gen Shuffle. Yeah so its only 512Mb but its been through the wash 4 times and still works perfectly.

Abused drive with moving parts, in failure shocker.

:p

Yeah but its a stupid idea putting a poor mechanical drive in a "portable" device. It WILL be in pockets/bags etc. People WILL take it running/cycling etc so to use rubbish mechanical drives is just dumb.
Not really. At the time, the 1.8 drive was the only solution available for reasonable money, if you wanted loads of storage.

The iPod was never marketed for use running etc, (as the shuffle or nano later were), so to call it dumb, just highlights your misuse / expectation that it should do what you want of it, rather than what it's built for.

I think the idea of them being portable goes out the window with that lot. I'll stick to my iPhone and earphones. I'm sure it's good enough as it is.

My 5th Gen ipod videohad been through a lot of abuse but the hard drive is about the only thing I've not replaced on it :p

What is the point then? May as well just buy a hard drive if you want all your music in a small space but never want to listen to it on the move.

That's not really that much money.

I bought this accessory earlier in the year for my iphone:

It simply plugs into the iPhone using a cable, sounds amazing and I can now use my iPhone to get to places as well, great little add-on!

Sitting down in a chair is an impact that broke my classic (although could have been the straw that broke the camel's back). Why aren't more things more rugged?

If things are too rugged, the producing company goes out of business because it doesn't sell replacements, since they aren't required. Apple is a money making demon.

Not really. Sonim are doing well despite selling rugged phones with a very generous warranty. Ok they aren't as big as Apple but selling weak products to make money is a massive con.
