**EVO Performance Tyre Test 2012**

Bizarre. So in that test they compare the SC5P with the old Eagle F1 Assymetric. In this test they compare the new Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 with the SC3. What on earth?

This was amusing mind:

9th Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31 87.5%
Not far off the pace in the objective dry tests, the Kumho trailed in most of the wet tests and ranked lowest subjectively. It felt OK on the road and you can certainly do a lot worse – pretty much any Chinese brand – but with the Kumho’s budget price comes cut-price ability, especially in the wet.

Corrected ;)

EDIT - Do you think Fox that rolling resistance is directly proportional to the amount of grip being generated? Sounds like the Hankooks had no rolling resistance as they basically were providing no traction!

Hmm.

I was dead set on Asymmetric 2 when my Bridgestone's die, but the sidewall being soft is not ideal... maybe I should go with the AD08.

Didnt you get the memo? It's winter, so our CS3's are death traps!

LMAO

Yeah been thinking for a few weeks now that all the people who fitted winter tyres must be praying for bad weather right now so they can get all self righteous about their foresight :D

Surely you know my dislike for their numb feel with lack of breakaway, not as if I don't keep banging the drum :p

DSC light probably won't come on much though.

I wouldn't recommend them. Hindsight I wish I'd have bought RE050A's

The Assymetric 2 or the AD08?

I have RE050's on the back, and V12's on the front. The V12's will need replacing before the Bridgestone's (hence they're on the front) so maybe I should just stick with the RE050's? Can't say I like the V12's tbh.

I had RE050's on the DC5 and they felt fantastic but tyre technology has come on so much in recent years it is hard not to look elsewhere.

Any reason they didn't test the contisportcontact 5p's? Most likely going to be my next tyre and seem to be getting very good reviews atm.

With these tests, aren't the manufacturers usually just requested to submit a tyre that fits the brief? ie. an ultra high performance tyre, so whyever it is that you're seeing CS3s instead of CS5s or Ultrac Centos instead Ultrac Sessantas is down to Continental or Vredestein themselves, not Evo (or whoever else may be conducting a particular test)

AS2, V12's has a squidy wall too doesn't it? Things have moved on since RE050A were released but it's still a good tyre if there's nothing else. Could try and get hold of some Potenza S001's? Or something from Michelin, PE2/PS3.

Yeah the V12's are a little soft however the level of feedback and grip is lacking for my liking.

I've always read that Michelin's don't tend to work too well on fast Honda's and that they wear out quickly so haven't really considered them. Are they worth a look? I had a set of Sportcontact 2 on the front of my DC2 and I liked them so may look at Continentals.

I can't seem to find the S001 from my normal suppliers so to be honest, the AD048 at just under £120 a corner is looking the best bet. Not much save a semi slick will match it in the dry yet it still provides good levels of grip in the wet and has the all important stiff sidewall that Honda's long for.

My only problem with the CS3s is that i felt they needed to be quite warm before they had any grip. Not sure if this is down to the weight of my car or not though.

My car came with CS3s on though so not sure how old they are.

Yeh I agree they are a bit slippy at first but once warmed up they better. I also run lower pressures to speed up the process.

S001s are better tyres than the RE050A on my S2000.

I just wanted to try the F1 A2 out as my car is a bit hard !

Not quite on topic, but just ordered 2 Vredestein Sessanta Ultrac's 255/35/18 at £135 each, looking at reviews they are still superb
