Is it worth spending money on gaming mice and keyboards?

You're welcome. I'll admit also that before I got the Compac, I was taking my Filco to work every day to use. Yes, I'm that sad. (and no I couldn't leave it there because then I couldn't use it at home :p)

I've actually been seriously considering that. I have done that sort of thing before too :p

You're on a computer hardware forum and you need to look at your keyboard to type?
Er, yes, guilty. I can do a general typing without much looking, but I need to check every now and then, and I need to look completely when using non alpha numeric characters.[/QUOTE]
Yes, I've used a keyboard with backlit keys and stand by what I said. If you can touch type there isn't a need for them, and I doubt anyone who's looking to buy a "gaming" keyboard will have to look at the keyboard to use it :p Also I don't use my PC in the dark.. it's not good for your eyes.
As well as for typing, when gaming with a joystick or similar, and only using the keyboard for a few keys, your hands aren't in the right place, so I need to look to hit the key I'm after.
And why is gaming in low light bad for your eyes if what you're looking at is a sensibly lit screen?

I used an old ms ball mouse for years for gaming, I had a grippy mouse pad to go with it.
Eventually shelled out for a logitech G3 gaming mouse (closest to a standard ambidextrous mouse I could find), plus a large black icemat from the shop here... lovely and smooth.
I still use my old beige basic logitech keyboard though; keys are yellowing a bit, but it's nice and concave on the key layout, trusty thing that it is...

The difference between the old ms ball and the G3, is chalk and cheese, if you'll excuse the rather sorry pun.

I've got the naga molten edition and even though it looks amazing! I play wow and I don't see much use for the 12 extra button, currently I've got the bound to spells which I only use at the beginning of a fight or maybe its more useful in PvP than PvE, can't comment on keyboard I'm gonna get a mechanical keyboard in a month :)

Care to explain why? Laser sensors offer no advantage over optical sensors, it's a gimmick. Just like any DPI over 800 is.

ooooohhh, i was thinking along the lines of: Laser > Ball mouse
I have always called optical mice laser mice :D

I have a VERY old logitech keyboard that I have been using for the past 6 years, I really don't see the need to be paying a lot of money for one at all.

The mouse on the other hand, I think a decent gaming mouse is definately worth upto a certain amount. I have had my mx518 for years now and never had a problem, fits my hand like a glove, was cheap when I brought it and has all the buttons I need.

I play a lot of WoW (and as of this week, SWTOR as well), so I bought a Razer Naga roughly a year ago. All I can say is that you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hand - took a couple of weeks to get fully used to, but I can't imagine playing without it now.

Towards the end of last week I splashed out on a Razer Anansi, which was more than I ever thought I'd pay for a keyboard, but it's a lovely bit of kit and one I intend to be fully exploiting over the coming weeks/months.

I love my Logitech G15 Keyboard, and G7 Mouse. I have had them since they were first released, which is about 7-8 years for the G15, and apart from the usual worn keys, its still going strong. No complaints for the Mouse either, still in perfect working order. :)

I've got the G15 and in the 4 years I have had it I just can't get used to it. I don't know why but the keys just feel as if they are in the wrong place. Love my G9x mouse though!

I have the G15 v1 but when the lights started blinking on it I knew it was time to change :P

I'm considering modding it to have rainbow leds and sticking it on MM.

Using a wired Naga here & today I picked up a Razer Black Widow Elite today really impressed with it need it for all the extra buttons in SWTOR should help in WOW too.

Cheers

I think it Totaly depends on what games you play.
FPS and MMOs then yes. First for accuracy and speed and latter for programable keys.

Other than that pretty much all other games, there's very little point.

Got a specific request, I would like a mechanical keyboard which has a cable protruding off centre. So that it doesn't snake around the monitor...are there any available? Thank you

Ah and cheap and cheerful is good, doesn't have to include special lights or anything.

Weird, I love it, best keyboard I have ever owned. Gonna be upset when it goes on me ;)

As a keyboard it is lovely, except for the fact that my fingers never seem to hit the right key. My daughter said the same thing last week. I always thought it was the G keys which put me off but that I would get used to them....still waiting :(
