Video editing software recommendations?

Any idea of the latest and greatest please? Preferably supporting the i7 and hyper-threading under Windows 7 x64 ? Don't want to spend the earth - £80 or so.

Been a Mac iMovie user and that is nice. But need to run on faster rig (MAcbook Pro 2009 at the moment) with all the video I shoot and I am not prepared to pay the prices Apple want for a new i7 iMac. Hence want to update my PC - in sig - as well.

EDIT - some search reveals Powerdirector by Cyberlink gets good marks. Anyone comment please?

Vegas seems very nice and is pretty simple to pick up. Combined with Neat Video it did a great job of removing all the noise from some digital camera footage I was playing with.
 
Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas in that order, Adobe After Effects is OK but not as good as Premiere Pro.

Unfortunately, way above your £80 budget.

Not Vegas Pro. I think the non pro version is around £80. No idea how crap and dumbed down the non-pro version is though.

Premiere elements is also about £80. But Premiere Pro is like £800.

Please please don't use Powerdirector. It's simply terrible. I have to use it because I bought it on the strength of some reviews and wish I had spent more on something better.

Thanks for your thoughts. I may try Sony Vegas - its gets some excellent write ups. Adobe Premiere Elements seems to have fallen off the A list from what I can gather.....
 
Currently using ArcSoft Showbiz but going to try out Corel Videostudio, I used Premier Pro (trial) and didn't really get on with it, it's more focused on big projects instead of quick edits and conversions although the Media Encoder application worked very well for straight transcodes that needed no editing.
