Having recently completed an unintentionally long post on my website (three parts,) about mentalism and the ideomotor effect (which is how people like Derren Brown can read your mind) I'd like to find out if any of you guys and gals have ever 'done' a Ouija board.

The ideomotor theory was put forward well over a century ago and it totally seems to debunk Ouija boards, dowsing rods and crystal pendulum stuff - so why the Hell isn't it well-known?! People like Uri Geller still make millions out of this kind of thing each year.

So, (in the interest of making this murky Tuesday a little bit more spicy) have you joined in any Ouija board sessions? If you did, what happened?!

Interestingly, Hasbro still sell them to kids as young as 8 years old:

Surely that's proof they are not harmful?

I’ve never taken part or ever had a desire to take part. It’s mumbo jumbo for kids and adults.

People want to believe.

I did it once. We were all hammered, and by sheer coincidence the indicator went all over the place and spelt out nothing.

I did one when I was about 12.

Everyone pushed the thing around and spelt out messages with it. Same thing that always happens. Most of the messages declared that somebody sitting at the table was a "bummer" if I remember correctly. ;)

I remember when i was at school (long time ago) we got a big pair of dividers and marked one out on a desk in the science room so when the lesson was a bit boring we would try and talk to the other side

we also had a Ouija dartboard

Yep! Silly, used to do them in a mate hotels with a haunted room when we were kids, all it took was the slightest movement by me and making sure everyone's eyes weren't on the board to get a response.

Hasbro must be making a killing out of all the idiots buying these, it's a piece of card with letters printed on and they're charging £10-15?

Apparently it was a childrens toy that psychics started to use to pretend they were speaking to the dead.
I can do exactly the same with snakes & ladders.

I gave your article a bash, interesting one, the black eyed kids thing sounded really like a couple of films rolled into a simpsons joke. Weird too!

Plus I disagree with the 27 club on principle Amy Winehouse is something in comparison to Brian Jones ;)

When I was a kid. As expected nothing happened.

Off topic, but OP why do you have an amazon affiliate link for that book on your site? You realise you will get 10p each time someone buys it?
