under £14k BMW 335i SE ?

No because once you add all the options you are left with your car, that is its original factory configuration. That is a stock car.

When I get home and change the bumper to an M3 one does it not become stock car. AKA original factory configuration.

Stock does not mean you have the base car at the factory, and then they add some tints and the factory and now it's no longer stock. Everything in the factory is considered stock, it's when modifcations happen after leaving the factory that it does not become stock.

You seem to be confusing the terms "un-modified" and "stock". They are 2 different entities

Probably because of that wikipedia sentence.

This one : "A stock car, in the original sense of the term, described an automobile that has not been modified from its original factory configuration."

Please don't quote me Wikipedia, Bob from down the street probably wrote that sentance...

I would actually agree with Pepsi here, to my definition any car that comes out of the factory, regardless of options, is 'stock'. A non stock car is something that has been modified by the dealer or owner in a way that differs from it's original order specification.

Semantics, mind.

"Everything is standard"
"Everything is stock"

They call it a standard options list in most cases don't they?

Sounds like a Sportback Sport affair to me :p

SE's have fallen in price a fair bit but the Msports definitely command more money.

I've got one of these in Msport guise and I love it. Sure there are cheaper to run cars out there, and that puts a lot of folk off, but I bought it for the overall package. I know there are plenty people on here that don't rate the 335 for whatever their reasons that's fine, but try it, should be able to sell it on easily enough, I think they are desirable motors.

Engine wise, I love the N54, tunes up very nicely too!

I didn't think the M-Sport kit warranted the extra £3k i was going to have to pay to get one. Not when BMW SE's these days don't like anything like as bland as E46/E39's did, the 335i comes with a sports steering wheel, sports suspension and sports seats.

If i had a manual, the M-Sport steering wheel is about £80, handbrake cover about £30, Aero front spoiler £320 painted, M-Sport skirts £200 painted.

With some £2500 saved.

I don't think there are many people on here who don't rate the 335i. What's not to like about it? It's by no means a perfect car, but it is very very good.

I was exactly the same when i bought mine a few months ago. I just couldn't justify the additional £2000 - £3000 it would have cost for an similar age / spec / mileage M-Sport.

You get much of that premium back when you sell it though. The M Sport does look so much nicer..

I agree the M-sport looks much nicer and if I was buying say a 330i its wroth every penny but as most the options are standard on the 335i its just not worth the extra for a few bumpers.

It should be noted you can retrofit a OEM M-sport body kit for around 1200 pounds (which is what I did)

I got my damn near immaculate 335i SE with a thoroughly decent options list for a snippet over £14k for a Dec 06 car, FBMWSH, 32k miles, iDrive etc etc

The pre 57 ones suffer from the £445 tax bracket, and this massively puts a lot of people off. Also, the fact it's an SE also puts some people off, as mentioned by Fox.

To be fair you got a good deal at the time because the guy that sold it to you was pleased to see it going to a young enthusiast:D

I hope your still enjoying it but you should really think about a remap.

This is true - however i really didn't want to plough £17k into a car, as i think i would have felt more like you did if i had. At £14k a 335i is such a good car, and i would be very dubious about spending much more on one. Hell, spending more than £14-15k on any car seems a bit pointless to me, but hey, that's just me.

Whilst this is somewhat true, it doesn't look nice enough to justify the extra expense. And i am just retrofitting little bits as i go along - it's a bit of a hobby now! :)

Whole heartedly agree. If i had had a 330i it would have to have been an M-Sport. Although, i just knew if i got a 330i and i saw a 335i, i would feel a bit disappointed.

And what a lovely chap he was as well! ;)

Absolutely. I still smile like an idiot when i put my foot down. I really can't wait for the summer so i can have the windows down :D

It's all very childish, but just the noise, the power, the grip and just how it looks still makes me grin and confirms that buying your 335i was the right choice. I'm well and truly a 3 Series guy i think, unlike Fox who is a 5 series guy. Putting me in an F10 wouldn't be for me. I love how they look, love the interiors, but they are a bit grown up for me i think. A 3 series has the right balance of comfort, sportiness and gadgets for me.

RE: the remap - i'm not thinking about that at the moment. My plan is to get a remap if i ever find myself in a similar situation to what DRZ was, or i start getting a bit bored of the car. I can't see either of these situations happening in the future. If i'm honest, 320bhp is fine for me for now. I also worry about putting the warranty at risk and possibly ruining the driving experience BMW designed it to be with a remap.

I saw your thread the other day about the remap on your wifes car, and you said it was now "pointlessly fast", so i got the impression that a remap wasn't really a good idea?

I mapped the car trying to solve a problem that a remap just can not fix for me.
Fox is a 5 series man, you are 3 series man and I am a 1 series man. I find the 3 series boring and missing that go kart feel that i had in my TT and in the Scirocco. The real answer was not to map the car but to sell it and buy a 135i (and remap that).

However I do feel that it was as waste to have owned 4 different 335i's and to have only just mapped it. If you are going to spend the money on the remap you may as well do it sooner and enjoy the map for he the entire period you own the car rather then map it 6 months before you decide it time for a change.

Regarding the warranty BMW will never know its there, also you can buy the switch thing with the map and remove the map when you take it into BMW.

Sounds like I dumped mine at just the right time :D

Been meaning to ask why you dumped your's, just wasn't all that you hoped?

You back driving the E39 now then?

I thought it was the right answer to the problem of having an E39 but not being able to afford an F10. It wasn't, and as I'm more a 5 Series person than a 3 Series person the 335i's fantastic engine (and I absolutely LOVED that engine) simply wasn't enough to cancel out the irritating build quality, rattles and squeeks, etc etc.

Ideally I needed a 58-09 plate 530i M Sport, but as I hate the E60 with a passion I thought I'd try something different rather than waiting the several years it'll be before an 11/12 535i M Sport is £20k.

Fair enough, must have been hard to realise and get rid but as you said you got rid of it at a good time probably.

It actually worked out really well in hindsight, I ticked the 335i box, hooned around it in all summer and sold it 2 weeks before going on holiday at the end of Sep for not an awful lot less than I paid for it :D

If I knew I could manage that every time I'd do it more often with more cars
