Going to Amsterdam with mates, any ideas?

Don't bother with the Heineken tour, you don't see anything bar some screens and some unused equipment (no beer is made there) and it's awfully expensive. Yea, you get a couple of free half pints but it's not really worth it unless you're a huge Heineken fan and even then you'll probably be disappointed.

Depends what you want to do! My sister went a few weeks back and she said she loved it. She only was there for like 3 days, so its not like she could do much.

She went there from London, caught a bunch of trains and then a ferry. She said it was amazing. Even if it took her a total of 22 hours travelling, it was worth it. The ferry was amazing, and you could shower, sleep etc. You can even take your car. And total of the whole trip was around 60 quid. Probably not suitable for you, as my sister was first in a holiday in London, then to Amsterdam, so the sleep/showers were God sent :p

Apart from the obvious clubbing and stuff, you can go to the Heineken experience. Was a bit expensive but it was worth it. (Don't drink Heineken though, because its HORRIBLE! :P)

You can go see the canals and maybe take a trip on them. Shopping ain't too bad either.

That is all I can think about, sorry! Didn't mention the obvious though :P

I didnt realise that what I put was unsuitable? :s

Either way amsterdam is a beutiful city and there is lots to do and see. The best thing to do is dive right in and enjoy it.

Amsterdam is actually cleaning up its act these days. The red light district has shrunk considerably, a lot of the doors the girls used now have art displays in them.
Also when a coffee shop closes down, they don't replace it.
It is a nice place to visit, I found a very nice fondue restaurant a little west of Damrak and a very cool hologram shop just north of Dam square. I agree with avoiding the bars on the main drag, you'll need a mortgage to buy a round.

I lived there too, for 10 years.. in the red light district..

I recommend..

Melkweg/Paradiso for concerts/weekend parties.. less stuck up than many other clubs. Check out the programme before you go.

Or you could go to the Escape club on the Rembrants plein..I am a bit out of touch with the rest of the club scene though.

For the more sophisticated, try The Supplier Club, off the N.Z Voorburgwal, for that lounging experience.

Hemp Museum (name shortened to avoid deletion) on the 150 O.Z Achterburgwal,

There is a Tattoo Museum on the same street ^

The Tara - Irish Pub extraordinaire - on the Rokin, just below DAM Square.. to get warm in front of a fire and have a drink and good food.

keep in mind that in a group of a dozen lads, your options may be limited.. Some clubs will refuse you entry etc.

p.s. do watch out for TRAMS, and dont get a hire bike if you are going to be riding it under the influence.. its far too dangerous!

taxis are a rip off, maybe not so bad if you are sharing.. but airport to City centre is 60 euro? Trains are very effective, as are trams for getting around town

There is always AIR now, which is where the IT Club used to be. Out the back of rembrandtsplein.

There was also a great indian restaurant on the right just as you go out of rembrandtsplein towards the heineken brewery, called the Meghna, almost directly opposite Stix coffeeshop, which i also highly recommend if that's your thing.

And a Rijstafel in the Kantil and Tijger used to be very nice if you fancy a spot of Indonesian food, take Tram 5 from Dam Square a few stops until you get to the Leidseplein end of Spuistraat.

The good old days.

ahh hallo mate. yes, AIR seems to be a decent club these days, going by the pics on their FB page anyway ;)
