Going to Amsterdam with mates, any ideas?

*********** ask for a postcard.........

Amsterdam as a whole can be expensive but its the same as anywhere really, either take your time or move out of the city a bit, I prefer it around liedensplien(sp?), going there in March for a stag do :)

Every time I fly to the Netherlands there are a bunch of people on the plane openly talking about how wasted they are going to get on herbal substances. I don't see the attraction really.

A few months ago I was sat next to some young chap whose sole intention was to spend as much time in hazy oblivion as possible. Sounds like a waste of time to me but ho hum. :(

I'd have considered other places apart from the 'Dam to be honest but I suppose it's now a rite of passage for stag dos/birthday weekends and such.

Nah we goto dance events over there and have done since we were 20ish (28/29 now) so its like our second home and we are all still into the same types of music.

I don't partake in anything which could affect my career here but have no objections to those who do, its just a part of life.

Right then, my daughters have been reading this thread because they are going in June with a couple of mates so what is there for girlies to do (age 23 to 25)?

shopping and night clubs I would think.

The shopping is great, particularly for clothes/shoes, and everything is easily accessible on foot. Kalverstraat, Nieuwendijk, P.C Hoofstraat streets mainly. You have some fleamarkets going on at the Albert Cuyp straat and the waterlooplein.. I think they can kill a lot of time in those places :)

Train. There's a train station next to the airport. It might be part of the same building.

yep its kind of underneath the station, you get tickets in the station and take the escalator down, will take around 15 mins to get into dam from there.

Having been 7 times I consider myself a bit of a 'dam vet :p but im sure people have been more times.

ALWAYS had a good time, sometimes just the GF and I have went, other times just me with friends, never go there with a plan to do x y z..just whatever happens happens :D

I disagree, I feel the same about people who go to 'dam and all they do is go to bars and drink alcohol - I mean you can do that at home, the bars in 'dam are not anything super special compared to London that they deserve the price premium you are paying for drinks which are very expensive! Would much rather go and do something you can't do back home - get high :D

Biggest advice - if you have a smart phone - pre(cache)load Amsterdam on google maps - then you will have GPS there for free, it helped me loads the last couple of times as it all looks very similar, now I basically know the Centrum as if I live there :D

I mentioned this place before mate and it got deleted so just a heads up, wouldnt want anyone getting suspended for mentioning it ... :D

Its been talked about on here plenty of times before, even by Rotty.

Was it not something else in your post which got it deleted?

Edit - RTM'd my own post just incase, lets see what comes of it.

shaypers mates? :p

Just woke my family up from laughing :D

Regardless of whether something is legal in another country or not the request is simply that there aren't posts about drugs and to not make it family unfriendly. This thread has been put back after a request but if people can't abide by the request then unfortunately it will need to be deleted again.

Thanks for putting the thread back dude, I needed that info.

However, can I ask where is the line drawn? There are posts discussing decriminalisation of drugs which had far more information on illegal substances than this thread did. Honest and innocent question... Maybe the boundaries should be put in the FAQ?
