AMD Phenom II 720 x3 struggling with BF3

After recently upgrading my RAM and GPU to cope with BF3. When i run the game it uses 99% of my CPU. Anyone else had this problem? Do you know if its just not powerful enough or coming to the end of its life?

cheers in advance

I was going to say the GPU bottlenecked, but I dont think that would bottleneck a 560ti.

I would say that the CPU hasnt got the grunt to cope.
Do you have the ability to unlock the 4th core? Most of the 720BE's can unlock the 4th core, or OC fairly high at least.

yeah i have had the 4th core unlocked previously and it overclocked to 3.5. although i had to go back to default setting when i changed my ram as pc wouldn't boot without doing so. i may have another go at overclocking to give it abit more grunt. thinking about upgrading to a 2500k but would rather save the cash.

Yeah, give the OC a go first. Maybe try BF3 at different settings. Otherwise it'll be new CPU time. Unless this is a problem that I havent heard about.

what resolution you running at and what are your settings in the game?

What are your minimum and average framerates and are you having issues in singleplayer or multiplayer mode?

also can you monitor your gpu load ?

AMD PhenomII 720 X3 should cope fine with an GTX560Ti. I guessing you are playing at low resolutions. Hey even my AMD Athlon X2 5000 coped fine with a GTX460 on 1080i resolutions.

i tried overclocking last night as i was having the same problem with skyrim. got it running at 3.5Ghz and was still having the same problem. before I got a BSOD :(

You should not be having an issue. My mate has an Athlon II X3 at around 4GHZ and an HD5850 1GB and runs SkyRim fine at 1920X1080 with reasonable settings of AA and AF. The Phenom II X3 has L3 cache which helps in games.

What PSU do you have?? It might be having issues.

PowerCool are not that great TBH. Is it possible for you to borrow a better PSU from somewhere to see if your issues persist??

Also, what motherboard do you have?? How much RAM?? At least 3GB to 4GB is a decent amount to have.

Have you tried monitoring the temperatures of your CPU and GPU??

Install this application:

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

See what temperatures you are getting.

IMHO,there are a few possible problems which might be happening:
1.)Your PSU is not good enough for the job
2.)Your motherboard VRMs are overheating due to lack of decent cooling
3.)System is overheating due to insufficient cooling

Temperatures are fine even during gaming.
could be the psu i guess. it was a cheap one.
not sure how to check the motherboard VRM's
