LG Prada Phone 3 cheaper than expected?

I don't know if anyone else has been paying attention to this phone, but I just saw on a competitor site the phone up for preorder at £349? I was expecting it to come in north of £500 given the Prada branding?

Very tempting to dip into my savings and preorder one now just in case the price bumps up around launch. The £350 price point make the specs genuinely competitive (given it's up against the Arc S and GS2 at this point) and then the prada design goes up on top of that... Does anyone know if LG have confirmed an RRP (i.e. so there's less chance of the price going up double by launch or if this is definitely a below normal price?)

EDIT: Found the price in Korea is $780 sim free and given how tech exchange rates work then the £350 seems very much below the RRP

I'm not sure why you would buy one of these, what's so good about it (considering most devices can be had just under the £400 mark)?

4.3" 800*480 Nova is pretty much comparable to the rest of the market, at the moment higher is either qHD which isn't a huge difference or 720p which gets a lot bigger and more expensive. The Razr is over £400 which is probably the closest thing to this.
1.0Ghz Dual core CPU is once again reasonably competitive at that price
8 MP camera is reasonably competitive
Skin looks good, phone itself looks gorgeous.

Screen will be inferior to SAMOLED+.

Internals are considerably slower.

Camera will be quite a lot worse I'd imagine.

Looks are subjective.

Galaxy S II is available for £380~.

This LG Prada will be nowhere near as talented as the SGSII.

Both running dual core A9 processors
Both running 1Gb RAM
Both running 800*480 4.3" screens (Nova vs sAMOLED+)
Both on Android 2.3.x as stock, both rootable to ICS (though I have no interest in doing that just yet)

Very comparable IMO and then the Prada phone does look and feel a lot more expensive than the GS2.

1. AMOLED is incredibly inaccurate, which isn't a problem for most but it would be a pain for my photos

2. Same amount of ram, slight underclock but the same CPU otherwise. Not sure on GPU admittedly.

3. Sure, but I prefer the looks of the Prada 3.0 to the GS2 infinitely. Might just be me.

4. Prada phone is available for £350 at the moment. Including the Prada branding which does actually make a difference to me, though it might not to you.

It is just you, the prada isn't very good looking to me. :o

In comparison to the /very/ cheap looking and feeling GS2 (imo) it certainly looks good.

Cnet:
"Svelte and impeccably styled"

Techradar:
"The chassis is feels great in the hand, thanks to the Saffiano décor on the rear of the handset, the curved edges and 8.5mm depth. In fact, take away the Prada branding and you can tell this would still be a very well designed phone."

So your phone is a fashion statement? Oooh err! :p

Well, it's a notably worse phone overall than the Galaxy S II, no question. If you want to buy it anyway then go ahead, I don't think you'll be convinced otherwise.

i take it either you have never heard of prada or are just plain ignorant.

brand names add more value to items than specs ever will.

Of course I have heard of them.

It's still a fairly poor looking LG device though and is cheaper than most other devices out there, so it doesn't scream 'money' to anyone who would care.

I'm arguing that it isn't a good buy due to a brand name. That's just ridiculous for a phone.

Not a fashion statement entirely but one does eventually get tired of having to explain what non-mainstream brands are. Easier to go to this, still have the benefits of Android and then saying it's the Prada phone than going ooh err it's got android hnnnggg... In the sense that I grew tired of explaining that iriver, cowon iaudio etc. weren't just cheap ripoffs of ipods and a had a role.

How is it notably worse? The CPU is more or less the same, the RAM is the same, the design is arguably better, the price is actually cheaper. The only notable difference I can see is AMOLED vs Nova and to me Nova looks more promising due to colour accuracy, and 8Gb versus 16Gb internal, which is augmented by the price difference anyway.

lol s2 doesn't feel cheap just because its light :) i can see you're very biased just get it and be done with it lol.. 350 is still expensive for some "prada" on phone.. brandwhoreness

I'm not biased so much as asking where this huge gap in capability between the phone and the gs2 is, because I don't see it. Slightly slower CPU, slightly less internal storage. Big whoop. Look at the specs, ignore the prada branding, and it's still a very competitive £350 phone. The Arc S gets praised as a great mid range phone, and this at the same price point with better specs, yet the tech crowd are out assuming it must be terrible because it has Prada branding.

It should be mentioned that practically every hands on the phone had was very positive, with the only caveat being an expected incredibly high price tag of over £500.

it doesn't matter, it's an official prada product, they could sell a shiny turd for thousands.

that is the power of marketing and brand names.

do you really think most women care about anything else apart from the "name"?

i saw a woman take 30 minutes (no joke) with 2 passer by's helping her to park a top of the range merc cls amg, in the process of doing so she completely kerbed at least 1 of the alloys, she did not give a **** i also noted that she has a LV handbag when she got out.

people like that simply dont care, they will buy it because it says prada

well previous lg prada's were rubbish so.. id say its normal to assume this will be too? it obviously wont be a bad phone but nothing to jump around for :)

gs2 is a SURE buy.. when you buy it you know it will be GOOD on this you can't be sure.. plus all the rooting and shiz you were taking about - how can you know how popular it will be ? it might have one rom in total because no one buys it :) or it might have tens of different roms/mods to choose like S2 does :) so pre-ordering one is a really hit and miss in my eyes since you don't know what support it will get from LG and community(Which is very important with android)

The internals are the same only in number, I doubt the GPU is the Mali found in the S2 - if you even care about that sort of thing. The internal storage is half of what the S2 has as well.

The camera/video will be quite a lot worse than the S2, I can pretty much guarantee that. If that doesn't matter to you, then fair enough. Just because they are both 8MP means nothing.

Who do you 'explain' about your phone to? It's a phone, nobody is going to respect you any more for having a Prada phone and if people are that shallow and dense then they aren't worth your time.

The OP shouldn't fall into this category. I hope he's not a run of the mill rich idiot (he clearly isn't rich :p).

you guys are missing the point, this phone is not for "geeks" who want to root it, this phone is being aimed at people who want a branded "fashion" item and could care less if it was running windows 3.1

You've totally missed the point. We're talking about the OP here and nobody else.
