Havent specc'd a case as Im not good with the HTPC cases, or if they come with a preinstalled PSU, because of this I specced the smallest mobo I could find, but if the case allows, you can save £15 by going for a H61 matx mobo, if it will fit in your desired case.

I have done it as cheap as i can. You could check out the OCUK HTPC case but at the min it is out of stock. But you could wait for it to come back in to stock.

Cheers guys - seems desktop style pc cases are not as easy to find as a few years back!

Any issues with a Pentium G620 over the i3 - much cheaper option.

No probs with the Pentium. For what you want it should be 100% OK. The only thing the i3 has more is the Hyperthreading. And the HD3000 Graphics if you get the i3-2105

IMO Silverstone make some of the best and most attractive HTPC cases. The Grandia GD06B is the one I'm looking at getting when I build my HTPC.

that is the very case i am getting tomorrow, i have trawled through a lot to find it!

im getting an i3-2120 and a nvidia GT 430 and M4 64GB SSD, but that is a little overkill for your reqs

id go th g620 or AMD llano

EDT, my spec is for 3d [which i will attempt to get working] if i wasnt after 3d i think i would have gone AMD Llano

+1 to the Llano for HTPC. It's pretty much the only thing AMD has going for them at the moment sadly.

The advantage to going with the intel 1155 socket is that you have a greater choice of CPUs to upgrade to later G/i3/i5/i7. Although if the machine is purely intended just to be a HTPC and nothing more I would opt for the Llano with it's better integrated graphics.

As you can see the intel CPU pulls ahead on some benchmarks but when you look at the video encoding the AMD option is actually better. Feel free to adjust the search criteria to suit your needs.

Good luck with the build and problems or questions you know where we are

Silverstone make some nice cases

Also, my HTPC runs off a 64GB SSD and I keep 2 X 2TB disks in my cheapo £50 Netgear Stora which has worked perfectly, silently and quickly since the day I got it. If a disk ever fails, it emails me and I can order a new one. With 300Mb+ Ethernet over Power avilable you can keep the Stora out of the way, in another room, the roof, somewhere where it wont get stolen etc... brilliant peice of kit for £50 MS2000

my GD06 came today, it is indeed a 'sexy' case!

but i have never had to take so many bits out of a case to install stuff!
