Hi,
Is there any insurer i should be looking at, that would be reasonably cheap with 1 at-fault claim, 23 years old and lost my no claims.

i'm insuring a fiesta st and was/am with aviva who for last year charged just over £800, and now want £1500 from me.
ran a few quotes just checking and on money supermarket the cheapest is with admiral at £1364. not found anyone cheaper.

just wondering if anyone has any experience with a good insurer after a crash/loss of no claims.

A solicitor I used to work for once told me Sabre Insurance will insure anyone.

This was a few years ago though.... Still worth a try.

Try the insurance companies direct as opposed to the comparison sites. I've gotten some prices considerably cheaper from the same insurers by going direct.

I'm 19 and just did a quote, £5400 on a 2004 1.6 Mini Cooper, get in!

Only had my car licence since September, it's a shame insurance companies do not take my motorcycle licence into account too as it's nearly 3 extra years of road experience.

I'm with elephant for £500 with mods declared and 2 years NCB. I have My old man and sister as named drivers on the policy also. I'm 23 in feb and had a fault claim on a previous insurer a few years ago. I think it must be down to my postcode!

It's possible the specialists may be able to do you a decent deal (Adrian Flux, Sky Insurance, Bell etc) but with 0 NCB and a claim you will be hard pushed to get anything under or around £1000 I'm afraid :(.

I started driving at the age of 22 and on a 1.6 Megane Sport Alize I managed to get it insured for £1170 TPFT with a company called Quinn (Irish Insurer).

What kind of prices do the big comparison sites give you?

moneysupermarket
confused

then try..

tesco
post office
elephant
direct line

Once you've got a rough idea of a few prices, try calling up some specialists like Sky and AdrianFlux. Although the latter ones probably prefer drivers over 25

I'd suggest creating a new email account when doing all the above, to prevent loads of emails coming through to you

-edit, changed the age :D \/ lol

I've nothing useful to add, but agree with the above.

my best price is with elephant, through money supermarket which is £1351, Just ringing a few people this morning but i do need to wait untill my renewal comes.
Aviva were around £800 cheaeper than anyone else for this last year and i'm hoping the crash doesen't put them up too much.
have been getting some daft quotes though, tesco value £4676.

Also, are these quotes for a one off payment? or monthly instalments, it can make it a lot cheaper to pay it all in one go

WOW.... Things must have changed a lot then!

And the claim... Have you tried a quote without the named drivers?

It's also usually cheaper to say your car is parked on the road at night as opposed to the drive or garage.

Try changing your job title as well. I got mine down by about £40 just by doing that.

Try Quinn, as stated, They where good when I started out, Going to move away now though as better offers available if you switch, which really annoys me.

Yeah, same for me with Quinn, for some reason when I got my renewal it was basically the same price as the first year, maybe a bit more and that was with 1 year NCB

@Steve2000, surely it is the other way round with regards to where the car is parked?

When I worked at an insurance company, there was no price difference between parked on driveway and parked on the road, was about 1-2% cheaper to say it was in a garage. Other companies could well be different though :)

You'd think so but every quote I've tried it has turned out cheaper to have it on the road than on the drive or garage.

I'm 22 been driving 4 years as a named driver and recently tried to insure a 1.5 86bhp scenic which came to £2k whilst a 200hp 1.6 ds4 came to £2.2k and finally a 140bhp 2.0tdi seat altea came to £3.5k how do they work that out?

I know it's probably not relevant to the OP, but I was shocked at how little difference a total loss made on our new premium. My g/f wrote off her Corsa (£2k settlement) which was put down to her fault. It reduced NCB to 3 years.

Our premium increase to a brand new A1 185PS (from a 80hp or so Corsa) was only £70 for the remainder of the year, including the admin fee (7 months or so).

We were shocked!

Add your mum on the policy to bring the price down with Admiral.

It's worth noting that most specialists will require NCB to quote but it's worth a shot as has been stated.
