I love the way it looks. Can't help it, it's bloody gorgeous.

But the price.. OUCH. Thankfully I have transatlantic relatives so if I ever want anything from the USA it's really easy. The Ultra is $600 out there, so a fair chunk cheaper.

Good old Britain and their lovely taxes at play again.

They're a willy waving card. Built for LN2/DICE to take on records with.

The 480 Lightning came "too late" but held the world record on LN2 for ages.

Remember - horses for courses. EVGA still make Untouchable boards for GTX 285 to allow people to take on world records in that class.

Just because the 7970 is coming out doesn't mean the entire world will stop buying or using Nvidia cards.

Nobody ever said that people will stop buying Nvidia cards. The point that everyone is making is a very fair point and I agree with it. In my eyes, only a fool would buy this card over the 7970.

NV has features that AMD don't, that can be reason enough for some people.
 
Expensive indeed.

All the prattle about the new ATI will fade away in 6 months time anyway. Still each to there own, i will carry on regardless at 1920x1200 with a 1.5 580 at max for the next few years.

The only game that will test these new cards in ARMA3 anyway :)
 
Also the 580 is last generation and the 7970 is next/current generation, the 7970 should be directly compared to the GTX680 when that arrives or maybe price wise the GTX670, AMD have done well to get their next gen products out before Nvidia and and will probably steal a few potential Nvidia customers that want a high end card now.

Yeah only a fool would buy it over the 7970. A fool that folds.

There are many reasons why some people don't buy AMD cards.

Any way people would buy this over a 7970. You can't break world overclocking records for the Nvidia 580 chip without, you know? a 580.
 
So people were moaning about the HD7970 pricing and now all of sudden a £500 GTX580 is good value for gaming?? If people say wait for the GTX680 if you want an HD7970, then you might as well say the same for this £500 GTX580 too.
