I have tried to overclock on auto but does not want to know ? Set 4.6 also I have tried to do manually by following what people have done on here but no go either :(

If anyone has the time to go through with me step by step that would be great.

It might help if you state which Motherboard you have.

Oops sorry that's me in a panic.

Asrock Z68 Extream 4 Gen 3, I am crap at overclocking but what gets me confused was the reviews on overclockers Asrock Z68, people was saying Thay were getting 4.6 with one button press?

Do I set memory to XMP profile 1 ? I tried to follow what a poster on here posted but when I save and comp reboots I just see a black screen, there can't be any signal as the power LED does not go to on state.
Here is a review from one member...

Dropped in my new 2500k i5 and clock the auto 4.8ghz preset and voila job done, shes a missile!

Overclocking for me never seems to go smooth so I need your help ;)"

Just one other thing of note, I have a annoying noise through my USB headphones its a high pitch noise that changes frequency with different light levels within a game?? I run the same GPU's from my LGA775 MB and did not have this problem?

First off set your memory to XMP, as it's HyperX this will set the DRAM voltage to 1.65v which is too high, you should be able to lower this to 1.5v.
Now go to Load Optimized CPU OC Setting and start at Turbo 4.0GHz (for now)
Disable Spread Spectrum, leave everything else for now and save and exit.

Once in windows you need to run Intel Burn Test, with CPU-Z open to monitor vcore and Core Temp to monitor temps and give the VID, which will come in handy later when you want to change to offset vcore instead of auto or manual.

If you set IBT to run 10 times on Maximum Stress level and take a screenshot when it's half way through the last run, then post that up here. It'll give a good Base idea of how good your CPU is.

As long as temps stay under 70C and vcore under 1.425v it'll be fine. But at 4.0GHz ( about 1.2v and 50C at full load ) using a H70 you shouldn't get anywhere near those figures. Once you've done that it'll give a good base to work from and get you up to at least 4.4GHz-4.6GHz depending if your CPU is good enough.

Are you runnuing you OS off a normal mechanical hard drive or a SSD ?

As regards the usb head phones make sure they are in a usb2 port not a usb3 one.
And use the usb3 drivers off the disk, the newer ones can cause problems.

i5 2500k, its in his sig

Lol :D as I said before I was in panic state :p I want to overclock but I hate doing it as I think it's all going to blow Up ;)

A BIG thank you to Davefran :) when I get home tonight I will try what you suggested.

I am running windows 7 on my SSD drive ?

Regarding USB I will make sure it's in Usb2 not 3
Once again thank you.

When you installed windows did you do this :

If your installing onto a SSD

Unplug all other hard drives from motherboard
Set AHCI mode in Bios
Install OS
Chipset and vga drivers
Run WEI and restart
Plug other drives back in
All other drivers
Graphics card drivers
Windows updates

Works the best

Erm no :( all I done was too boot up into bios and set primary hard drive ACIH mode.
Will this have a have an effect on overclock ?

I thought in the early days of SSD drives what you suggested was the only way to install an SSD or have I got this wrong ? as now it's more robust ?

If you have another drive plugged in when you install windows it can write system files to the wrong drive which may cause some problems.
Also running WEI is recommended to enable trim support and disable disk defrag which can damage SSD drives.

Mmm ok well I did run WEI straight away so that's one thing out the way.
On my D drive where my games are I can not see any data ?

I have run 10 test of that program but doing again as I type as I now know how to copy the image ;) so will post that up when it's done
As for temps it reached 74c and that's at 4.0 Ghz :( so I may need to re apply the TIM, out of interest I have the fans so that there sucking air into the case through the H70

4GhzIntelBurnTest.gif

I hope this is an ok size ? and i hope you can read it :)

Core Voltage = 1.280v "my first run was 1.296v"
VID =1.3761v
Core Speed = 4000.5Mhz
Multiplier = x 40.0
Bus Speed = 100.0 Mhz

Max temp hit 76c

I hope this helps...

Looking good so far.Temps are a touch high for 4GHz, but remember this is under extreme stress levels. Normal useage and running games will only be in the 50'sC.

It might be a good idea to try re applying fresh TIM, just use a grain of rice sized blob.

Then you can try upping it to the Turbo 4.2GHz setting.

try restting the uefi to default. Up the multiplier to 43 and leave everything else on default. Thats how I had mine running for a while with good low temps and stable as anything. I think I even managed having an offset Vcore of -0.020 which really brought the temps down.

See if you have any luck with that :D
