gone from q9550 2 a i7 920. i7 will be partnered with 12 gb corsair vengance ram. how long do you think it will take 4 that setup 2 become a bottleneck for games/applications gpu setups etc.

cheers

It really depends on your version of bottleneck. They'll be decent chips for a good while, possibly up to five years, but you're going to notice it struggling compared to current technology fairly soon, especially if you ever use a friend's computer who has updated tech, etc. You'd need to include what your GPU is to make an accurate assumption.

It also depends on the games you're playing - WoW-esque games are very CPU-reliant, whereas games such as Battlefield are probably more GPU-reliant.

@Stoner: It must be 1366, it's an i7 920. They don't fit into 1155 sockets to my knowledge.

1366 wont fit 1155 or 1156 or 2011,the amount of numbers means the amount of pins hence thay are all different

plenty life left in i7 920,propper 16x16x xfire/sli pci-e speeds too which you dont get on even 1155 socket, and thats with usb3 and sata 3 enabled, best thing about sb are the lower temps compared to nehalem(1366)

my intention is 2 have this CPU Board etc for atleast the next 2 years.

gunna get a nvidia 780 this september/october. got a 6970 coming soon.

Do you mean the gtx680 Kepler? If so that card will be pic express 3 and won't run to full potential on a 1366 board!
heard the 6xx series is going to be a basic workstation base GPU. like the 3xx series. correct me if im wrong.

difference between 3.0 and 2.0 is minimal though isnt it? seen reviews of 7970, no difference what so ever.

Yeah I do think it is minimal at the moment, but they wouldnt gonto the expense of changing the design if there was no need? I've heard lots about the gtx 600 series but never heard of the 700series il look into it as il making an investment in the new gen nvidia cards.

Is it a standard chip or clocked.?
the 920s easily clock to 4gz together with a decent gpu will see you ok for a good while yet tbh :)

use the search functions on these forums, sure its been discussed onhere. thats where i got the info im sure.

she'll be overclocked the best 2 her potential. cooled by a H50.

there good chips made even better now that you can pick one up for around £100,pci-e 3 is a gimmick imo,it will take years for them to fully use the speed, same for multithreading and games

still have years left in that processor, the previous generation aren't much slower than current Sandy Bridge processors clock for clock, they don't clock as high mind but 99% of people don't care about the extra 2 FPS you'll get for the clock difference. pretty much the reason I never understood why everyone jumped ship when Sandy came around, unless it was just for the sake of having a good tinker, can understand that urge! ;)

Edit: and besides Kepler is delayed for the foreseeable future, sensible man would go for upcoming Radeon cards, they look like right powerhouses and they are available very shortly...!

ye but dont like the idea of spending 400 + on a gpu at this time of year. like i said ill invest in one around september time. should be sweet.

fair game, wouldn't have your mind set on NVIDIA though, heard they are having tons of problems with Kepler and their roadmap is supposed to be behind by at least one year, plus Kepler has no 'launch' date, not even a hinted one as far as I know at the moment, still by then the 7*** series prices will have settled right down...! :)
