We got married in Vegas in 2006, my wife was from Salford and I'm from Sussex, we live down here in the warm whilst her family we left in the damp, the crux of it was her Mum refused to come down and her Dad was too ill to travel, there was doubts over him even coming to a wedding on his doorstep, my Mum and Dad didn't want to be in the same room together let alone going to Manchester together, so we said sod the lot of you and got married in Vegas in between a road trip of the West of the US.
We got married in the Little Chapel of the West just by the Vegas sign for $250 including photos then had a party for freinds when we came back that cost a couple of thousand, we don't regret it one bit, we had to finance it all ourselves, we didn't have any family support, we didn't re-mortgage our house for it, we didn't spend years saving or paying back money, we didn't spend two years organisng a wedding and probably falling out at several intervals.
We've been to truely dull hotel weddings that have cost £20k, a fantastic wedding in a Castle in Wales for lots and lots of money and a great intimate wedding in a local church followed by a pub lunch and drinks which cost a few thousand.
You won't please everyone and to be frank the only person you want to please is your future wife, not the family or the hangers on so pick which ever will make you both happy not what you are 'supposed' to do.
