So I need a new CPU upgrade as my current CPU is lacking and I cannot play some of the games I really enjoy, including Battlefield 3 as CPU usage is at 100% even on the lowest settings possible. So I browsed the shop and it seems that the 960T is the best option available for me at the moment as after looking at the prices of a 2500k and a Z68 motherboard I decided I wouldn't be able to afford that anytime soon. So how well would the 960T do in BF3?

Slightly off topic: what happened to the large selection of phenom x4's OcUK used to stock? Last time I looked at them they had quite a large selection. Was quite interested in the x4 955/965 BE but they are nowhere to be seen.

They just seemed to be suddenly pulled from most stores, maybe there was a mad rush to buy them all by a big OEM after seeing Bulldozer.

I never considered this at first but how would the Bulldozer FX-6100 compare to the 960T? The FX-6100 is currently priced at £120 with £15 cashback from AMD making it the same price as the 960T.

Cant really answer tbh... Probably the 6100 as it has better memory controllers and proably be able to clock higher etc. I managed to unlock mine to X6 and OC to 3.7, it was fine at 4ghz but no point for 24/7 OC.

EDIT: meant to add - couldnt be happier with it. I bearly look at game settings now, just turn it up to full.

6100 would be worse, you're better off with the 960T and going for the unlock to X6.

My motherboard doesn't support core unlocking unfortunately :(. If it did I would have tried unlocking the other two cores on my current CPU which would have solved the problem of CPU bottlenecking altogether.

I just bought a 960T, not fitted it yet.
I was under the impression most games used only 2 cores so even a quad would be a bit "overkill" never mind 6 cores!

Can't wait to get mine in and playing BF3 :-)

If its any help, my rig is in my sig and its all stock. In BF3 on High with effects on ultra, shadows on medium, and AA off i get 40+ frames in 1080p in outdoor areas on Multiplayer. inside i get my monitor refresh rate 60Hz/FPS.
