Hi any advice on a Gaming /Video editing rig 50%/50% on time
Have keyboard , G700 mouse and Monitors
Looking at the above usage and Eyefinity set up for gaming, and Multiple screen for Video.Photography work.
with Eyefinity , how much better is the set up against getting a large 42" monitor , is it all about the resolution of the 3xsingle moniotrs agianst the Resolution of the large monitor?

See there is a lot of division between graphics cards 6990 or 580 and should i look at Water cooling and rads with what i want to be doing ?
Thanks for your help

With the 3 d surround i will need glasses is that correct ? and with each will i be able to have the 3 monitor set up ?
Thanks for the info , looking at the Dell 30"Ultrashape for the moniotrs.

My advice for such a big budget and with new GPUs about to hit the market, is to get a Gen 3 mobo, 16Gb of RAM, a 2600k, a 850-1000W PSU or thereabouts, a huge case (Temjin, Corsair), a decent-sized (and branded) SSD, HDD(s), then get 2 7970s, or even wait for the 7990 (Dual GPU) once they come out... hope I haven't missed anything :p

Note these new AMD cards will have Stereoscopic 3D (3D across more than one monitor), although, up until now, Nvidia have been the go-to brand for 3D uses. However, these new AMD GPUs could change that (more here)

If you're not gonna wait, then mind you the nVidia equivalent to the 6990 is the gtx 590, not the 580.

Hope I've helped (somehow!)

If you want to drive three monitors you'll need two 580's or at least one high end amd card. Cpu choice either i7 2600k, i7 2700k or new socket 2011 i7 3930k. All good at multithreaded apps and gaming. But 3930k carries a hefty price tag. Check out this months custom pc mag or bit-tech website for reviews. Also 42 inch tvs are only 1080p.

Hmmm

If you're doing photography work it seems strange youre asking the question re monitors!
For proper photo work you want the best quality you can get, eg IPS monitor, which no TV can come close to in terms of image quality and colour reproduction, if youre also looking for a gaming set up then you can either choose to go for one large monitor for your photo work, 2560x1440/1600 (£6-900 for the one) or if you want it geared more towards gaming then you could get 3 24" monitors at 1920x1200 (£400 each)

Once you decide that, that will then dictate your gfx selection, though the new 7970s could do either

And yeah i7 with as much RAM as you can get and a system tailored round the rest

Hi will be looking at gettingthis built March time so no rush , starting to read up and post to see what advice i can get , will get Oc.uk to build it
Want to go down the 3 eyefinity route unless i can find a high res Large single screen that will give me the same veiwing.
Once new card are out hope the price of the 580 and 6990 will come down ,
Anyone had any problems with Oc's custom build machines ?
At this point any help is good , want to have an idea of what i will need and what actually works , think in this budjet i can get a top notch machine but dont feel i need to get the top of the line in everythink as cost goes up for very little gain so would be happy with the 6990 or 580 once the price is down ,

EDIT: Could swap out the mobo for the X79-UD3 but there have been reports of the VRMs blowing up on them under heavy overclocking conditions which has now been fixed under a mobo patch.

EDIT 2: If you want, ditch the screens - didn't read OP thoroughly and read the spec above. :p

well with the 7970 out in a few days would go for that over the 580, for photo work will be wanting the u2410 or u2711 in all honesty(i'm no expert on monitors or photo editing etc but from what I've read the u2410(2711 if can afford it) is still the better choice than the u2412m).

why so cheap on the ram? the g skill ripjawz especially for the sb-e would be more suitable.

corsair/antec/xfx over the ocz

case is personal choice but I would say raven 3

I'm sure they're not as good as the DELL monitors no but then again they are 50% more expensive are they worth it for the build quality and everso slightly better IQ?

Case is personal choice yes, I would spec the HAF X but it's just so darn fugly imo that I can't bring myself to do it anymore....

Antec need to make some new cases already and Cooler Master need to make some nice looking cases !

Didn't realise that OCZ range had any problems

as much as i love the raven 2, raven 3 and fortress 2, if your planning on watercooling then they are as much use as some bagpipes are to an arctic explorer. its probably best to get case advice from the watercooling section as well if you want to do go the watercooled route

graphics card is a very hard choice, because the GTX580 is clearly going to be worse than the 7970 for gaming, but the GTX 580 could be incredibly helpful if your video editing or photo editing software made use of cuda.

since its going to be 50/50 gaming and work then id be tempted to go for a couple of 3GB GTX 580s for the improvement in video and photo editing performance.

it really depends on what price the 7970s go for

Get cleeecoooo to spec you a pump for that. Tell him I tried to keep it all black.

I want the mug on the desk with the pics :DDDDD

Not with a 1.5Gb card no. The higher the resolution, the more VRAM you need, at the very least you're after a 3Gb 580, but if you're gonna go 3x30"dells, then I would think you would want a couple of AMD 6990's or Nvidia GTX590's (if you can find them anywhere anymore)

Like I said in the watercooling thread, watercooling 2x 590 will be about £200 let alone buying the buggers.

Have you already got the monitors?

cool thanks for that , so you think i will happily be able to run3x30" eyefinity setup with this spec ?

NO, eyefinity is amd/ati 'tech' NOT nvidia. so if you want eyefinity you want amd/ati graphics card.

with the 7970 out on mobday why are you lot still specing a 580????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
