I've been using it off and on since 8.30 this morning and it's now 12.36pm and my battery is down from 100% to 34% Ive only sent a few texts, browsed web and bit of angry birds. This sucks compared to my old phones. maybes it's cos it's jailbroken? Anyone else have crappy battery life one there IPhone?

The two iphone 4 handsets i've had the battery has been excellent, better than any other smart phone I have owned.

Was it a new handset - could it have been damaged before you owned it?

Check what's using your battery & see if you have anything running in teh background sapping the power.

My 4 has always been ok (well ok in relative terms, no smartphone is 'good' battery-wise) but since i've got a new car with a media kit that uses bluetooth my battery has been draining really fast now bluetooth is switched on. Keep forgetting to disable it when out of the motor.

So check whether bluetooth is on, whether you have poor reception (the phone will use more juice trying to keep a lock on a poor signal) and that you are up to date on the iOS5 battery fixes.

Strangely enough I've had this problem this week - Wed morning it went from 100% to about 40% in 2 hours - while only listening to podcasts. So last night I quit all apps and ran the battery down until it switched itself off, then charged all night. Been doing the same today and its at 80% atm - much better.

I found that having find my iphone turned on in icloud settings drained battery even when location services were turned off. Just have to remember to turn them on when i go out

I found that having it fetch my e-mail killed my battery, I now have it set to check e-mail manually, seems to be 100% better.

Hmm some interesting points and tips there thanks. Got the phone off my brother cos he upgraded to 4s. I do have a few apps running in the background but nothing too serious. And most times I kill background apps using the two push home button trick. Im running an old IOS version 4.2.1 I'm going to upgrade to 5.1 to see if that helps any. How do I know if gps is running by way?

Make sure you have stuff like Bluetooth, Personal Hotspot, anything that auto-updates, Mail for example (you can check it manually when you want to check it), any kind of GPS that's tracking you consantly.

When you stop using a program that takes a lot of battery, double-tap the home button and close the program fully. Otherwise some programs are saved in a kind of "sleep" mode, which can still use some battery life up. I'm sure if you're having serious battery problems you can turn stuff like that off.

Friend of mine had this problem with his iphone 4 to the point that he stopped using it, then was advised to upgrade to IOS 5.0.1 and battery is fine now.
