Blue Screen and Slow HD. Is it dead?

Ok, I recently did my own build. Around Dec 20th. Everything was working fine till today when i got home from work.

Got home, woke my computer up for hibernate, was watching a utube video for 20 mins then boom, everything crashed and a blue screen. Restart it, comes up with a problem saying cannot find boot device.

I leave it a few mins to cool down. It loads up (but slower than usual) and gets to the microsoft screen where it blue screens once again. Did this a few times. In leaving it to cool down even more and see if maybe my SSD or CPU has over heated as my room is pretty toasty.

Is my SSD dying? help :(

my i-2700k was clocked to over 4.6mhz just using the basic opens on my Asrock Z68 extreme 4 Gen 3 motherboard.

Any ideas team?

(as if u need any more info)

Pretty sure the SSD is dead :(

Tried formatting, at first the SSD wasnt even being picked up but my standard HDD was.
I had a fiddle with the sata wires till it picked it up. Tried installing windows to it. Started to work but then an error saying

"windows cannot install all required files. make sure all files required for installation are available, and restard installation, Error codeL 0x80070037"

Okay first switch over sata ports and check in the BIOS if you see the HDD listed. It will be somewhere (each bios being different).

If so proceed to format and reinstall windows. How far does it get with that? I assume it crashed somewhere in that?

Apply a FW update as well, no harm in that. If you can that is...

ok i messed with the sata cables, changing ports, changing cables, it picks it up.

But when i go to install windows through the window disk it does the error above. Is it maybe my CD drive that is broken to give that error. But what the hell was the problem in the first place. Surely there is something wrong with the HDD or i wouldnt be at this situation in the first place. OR could it be some other part.

I'm running the installation again right now. I'll let u know what happens. took a while to fail the first time.

ok got the same error as the first time round.

Is it the cd drive or SSD? :((((( help

edit: ok after it failed, the light on the SSD when orange/red and now i cant see it on the "where to install windows window"

Could i get this same error that looks like a write failure from the cd drive if the SSD is suddenly failing half way through the installation. I've had quite a few issues with this drive in the past, BSODing after hibernation and the like. Cant see how it can be anything other than the SSD, just waiting on confirmation from a member so i can order a new one.

Try in another PC, it's hard to diagnose from this end :S

You need to be fully sure it's the SSD only before sending it back. The error message you provided suggests either so it's not helpful really. Sorry to be a pain :)

yeah i know its always hard to visualise a problem from the other end. The main sticking points in my head that tell me its the HD are

1. PC slowing and blue screening before the format.

2. The light on the HD going red half way through window install and the install crashing at the same time.

3. after the install crash without several restarts and wire fiddling till the light goes green the HD is invisible.

ill try in another pc now, thanks xxx

By all means you seem to know your stuff, I would be fairly confident it's the ssd but I would hate to think you RMA it on my recommendation and then get it send back with some fines slapped on you.

Best to be safe before sending it, even though it is a pain and I know it :/

Can i RMA if i bought it over a year ago?

Anyone have any suggestions for good stable SSD's just incase i get a new one?

Depends on the warranty, you will have to look at where you brought it from. By default a year is as standard.

I have an OCZ vertex 3 120 and that thing is the **** but I hear a lot of good things about the crucial series (m4 and the like) too

yeah ive had it over a year now, very much doubt i can RMA it. hardly want to the amount of problems ive had with it.

so ur OCZ vertex 3 is a gooden then? no problems?

Well I've had it for a good 6 months, so still in it's infancy but I expect it to go strong. No problems thus far.

It sounds like you got a crappy batch, which just happens sometimes (welcome to life) so you can either grit your teeth and get another OCZ or jump to another manafacturer. In any case if your concerned for next time, get an ext. warranty to make sure everything is covered.

Tbh I'm not one to just abandon a brand because of one bad experience, but there is a good offer on the Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB so I think im gonna go with that. I've got a gold standard OCZ power supply so I know they are a good make. But every company has their bad pieces. pi**es me off i cant get it till Monday though!

Funny you say that would recommend OCZ SSD straight up but wouldn't touch their PSU's with a stick after my last experience. Anyway that''s a good one you selected, hopefully will serve you well.

Best of luck
