Fitting i5 and Asus board possible bent pins

Hi guys,

My processor and motherboard turned up today. I got;

Intel Core i5 2500k
Asus P8Z68-V GEN3

Basically when looking at the motherboard, I dunno if its me but it seems as though a load of the pins are bent. I can't really see though :|

I dropped processor in and when going to apply the bracket it makes a bit of a noise. Should it make this noise?

Are the pins likely to all the bent, or it is me worrying not being able to see properly.

Thankss guyss

its unlikely that youve bent lots of pins - the pins go in two different directions in the socket - look for ones that are not the same as all the others and those are the bent ones

when you put the cpu in for the first time, it will feel rather stiff and can make noise - but if the points are aligned - no damage should be done :)

Theres one in the middle which seems to stick up. Should they all be sticking up, or instead be sticking in different directions like you said?

It will only fit in one way mate. Plop it in and tighten the catch. It will make a noise.

Connect it all together and away you go. Any issues after that point, post again!

Well I stupidly managed to get it in the wrong way :\ Without realising I was gonna test it up and see but when I looked I noticed something wasn't right and the processor wasn't in the right way round, somehow.

The processor seems fine, so does the board, still that dodgy pin so I'm gonna see if can get the board replaced.

I just hope to god the processor is ok, wasn't turned on or anything so only touched a few pins.

As for the board I'll just have to wait and see what they say, hopefully it will get sorted, if not I might try it and see if it works, not sure yet.

Customer fails arent covered under warranty.

Well the board had the dodgy pin to start with. I can't see any other damage which has occurred; so I'm hoping that they'll sort it out on that basis. I'll have to see what they, the box was a little damaged and there was nothing to protect it from being all chucked about during delivery so I dunno.

If worst comes to worst I'll have to buy a new board :(

When I put my cpu in (this for the very first time) it was like my life was in my own hands. You should match up the triangles, not hard.

if you bought it from ocuk then forget about trying to get it rma'ed, I had a bent pin on an asrock extreme 7 gen 3 and when I tried the rma I had the 'pleasure' of flat out being flat out called a liar by one of the rma guys when I phoned up to ask why they'd rejected the rma.

the guy was adamant that the damage could only be done by either dropping something into the socket or by touching the pins, when I said I had done neither of those things he said I was lying. having had a close look at the bent pin I can say that there's no way dropping something into the socket or even putting in/taking out the cpu would bend the pin in that manner, only way would be to either use my finger nail or some other pointy/sharp object and bending the pin in the opposite direction to what it was originally meant to be(which I'm 100% certain I did not do).

ended up costing me £35 for the rejected rma from ocuk(shipping to them plus their charge) and £42 for sending the board to the netherlands to get a replacement from asrock(£15 for asrock to send the replacement plus ~£27 for sending the board to asrock). in all the board ended up costing me nearly £290(bought it for £210 on pre-order), could have bought the asus maximus iv extreme or gigabyte g1 sniper2 for that sort of money.

if you do send it in you'll end up paying for the cost of delivering the board to ocuk then get hit with £22 for the pleasure of them looking at then rejecting the rma and return shipping of the board to you.

It always makes a noise, the mount squeezes it very tight to the board, just make sure the CPU is in the correct way, there is usually a marker for to you lign up .

I dropped it in about the 5th time and it seemed fine, then I noticed it again and it was in 90 degrees the wrong way. somehow :/

Trololololololololol.....

Seriously im starting to think this is some kind of elaborate troll?lol. How the hell can you do that to a CPU? 90 degrees wrong angles wtfff. The troll comment is a bit harsh so ignore it,just me being a bad comedian:p.... but honest to god m8,you have put some weird images into my head regarding that CPU and motherboard socket...

You should really take a picture of it then people on here will know exactly what you are talking about and wont be all confused like i am;)

Hope you get it sorted out m8 i know how annoying it is not to have a working computer:mad:

Good luck!
