I've just got my insurance renewal and as you can imagine its gone up. I've got some quotes from other places that give me more cover for much less. I'm usually lasy with things like this and stay with the same company. Do I need some physical proof of my no claims to change or is your word normally accepted. Is it difficult to retrieve a no claims certificate from the company thats losing your custom?

When you get a renewal quote through from your current insurer, this will include a page that states your no claims allowance. When you then change insurers you usually just have to send this off to them to show proof.

A no claims certificate is the best way, but as long as your renewal notice clearly states the amount a NCB they'll probably accept it.

The new insurer will start a policy without proof of NCB, and then give you an amount of time (I think it's about a month) to send in proof.

+1

Phone your current insurer and ask for a proof of no claims.
You never know, they might match the quotes saving you the hassle of changing?

Thanks for all the advice/answers, I've a month before renewal so should have time to get the certificate in any case, unless they really drag there heels.

I called up bell after my penultimate payment was taken to say don't renew and send me proof of ncb. They sent it after the last payment was taken.

I'm now insured with admiral and the guy just used my old policy number as they are part of the same company. I guess id send a physical copy if it was a different company.
