*So to speak.

A week ago as I was returning from the shops to my parked car, a Newham Council traffic warden reversed his scooter into the rear drivers side quarter panel of my car. The damage was a large dent and a deep long scratch. I wasn't gutted or anything, my car is full of dinks and minor scratches.

He admitted liability. Naturally we exchanged details. He was keen not to get his employer involved (Newham Council). He said get a quote to repair and he'll pay for it.

So I got three quotes, phoned him and told about this and I said I'll go with the cheapest which is £120. He agreed and said he'll call me the next day to discuss payment, as he was a bit short for cash. Fair enough.

He calls me the next day saying "please don't call me again. The matter is closed." He then hangs up before I get a chance to say anything.

I call him back and his phone is switched off. He's changed numbers and doesn't want to pay.

For the sake of £120 I'm not going to go through insurance. It'll increase my premiums. I've already run quotes with and without the non-fault claim.

I've found him on Facebook, and have his personal details (unless he gave me a fake address).

What's your advice? BTW there were 2 independent witnesses.

Just to iterate I'm not bothered about going through insurance. If I contact the Police/council I'm sure insurance companies are going to get involved.

It's £120 damage on an 11 year old Focus.

dont think police would be interested.

go round to his house first and ask very polite what's up. if no good. contact the council :)

Contact the council. But he might end up losing his job...I'd feel a bit guilty about it though that's probably just me.

You sure it will increase your premiums? I wouldnt of thought it would..

You could allways try contacting him at work, See if that makes him more helpful.

Was the scooter a works vehical or his own?

If he really wont pay you contact his work at let them know of the situation..

A council employee on council business crashed into your car and you are trying to use Facebook to rectify it? Seriously?

Contact the council and ask where to send the invoice for £120. They wont get an insurer involved for £120.

Of course it would, even a non fault claim increases it.

Go round, then he knows you know where he lives and that you have all his details. Then say you'll phone his employees up if he doesnt pay up.

Or message him on Facebook saying that.

Indeed. He was on work business.

I don't want to use Facebook to sort it. Naturally I Googled his name and his Facebook page was the first link. I'm not even sure why I even bothered writing the whole "I've located his Facebook account" thing.

I think this will be the best option. Naturally I just wanted a general opinion, hence the thread.

It's not the best option at all. He was representing the council driving presumably a council vehicle.

Contact the council and stop playing internet detective on him, as you should have done right from the start.
