Border Gavaskar Trophy: Australia v India Test Series

I think India fought back respectably today. 2 for 114 is not a bad response for the given timeframe, especially considering how long they'd already spent in the field.

Interesting to see the records Clarke broke today, including one of Bradman's:

He not only became the sixth man to score a Test triple-century for Australia, his innings was also the best by an Australian captain in a home Test, surpassing Bradman's 270 at the MCG in 1937.

It also broke Tip Foster's 108-year-old record for the highest score in an SCG Test; his 287 on debut was passed when Clarke drove a boundary through extra cover. That was a record that could not be overstated, especially in the SCG's 100th Test.

Over the years, 3747 times batsmen have walked out on to the Sydney Cricket Ground to commence a Test innings. In all of those performances, nobody has ever scored as many as Clarke did over the past three days.

Personally I think this series will be a battle between India's batsmen and Australia's bowlers. Our batting order is still too fragile to present a serious danger. If we win it'll be because our bowlers cracked the Indian openers and sold their own wickets dearly, as in the last test.

Well, that goes to show how little I know about international test cricket.

:p

Gambhir building steadily towards his ton. Nice to see he's regained that superb ankle action.

*edit*

No, Gambhir's gone for 83! Clumsy shot, he's tried to play across the knob and it's gone straight to Warner. All down to Laxman & Tendulkar now.

They had some rain overnight. Could be more later, but I'm not sure if it's likely to make a difference.

Tendulkar's looking comfortable. Could deliver the century India needs. This is a great reply to Australia so far.

Wow, four wickets! Blink and you'll miss 'em!

Tendulkar tries to get his end away, but Hussey is too quick with the catch.

Laxman takes a slash but swings loose and his stump is shaved by the ball.

Dhoni tries to scoop high but can't get it up fast enough (a common problem for these Indians) and Hilfenhaus catches him!

Kohli gets his leg over, but it's badly placed: lbw!

High drama at the SCG today.

Khan! Another one who suffers from short balls. 8 for 342, I'm beginning to think India might lose this.

Sharma, lbw! (To be honest, he's never been the same since he picked up that knee trouble in Gwalor). Australia finally discovers a use for Nathan Lyon!

9 for 384.

There it is, all over at 400. Ashwin throws away his wicket with a Viagara-inspired riser neatly caught by Lyon.

Wow what a collapse from the Indian batters. I thought they could have at least took it to the last day. Clarke has to be the man of the test, brilliant batting display from him. I don't know what to say about India, but something needs to be done because they are useless away from home.

Ooh, this is unfortunate:

Australian tearaway James Pattinson has been ruled out for the remainder of the Test series against India with a foot injury.

The 21-year-old fast bowling revelation has been cleared of stress fractures but complained of pain in his left foot on the fourth day of the second Test, and needs to be rested.

Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc have been included in the squad for the next Test in Perth and will compete for the vacant fast bowling position.

Another spanking by the Aussies, unfortunate that Pattinson is ruled out as hes been immense..

But immense batting by Clarke, Ponting and Hussey to leave India well and truly battered:p...Tendulkar still waiting for his century of test centuries as well.

The way the Aussies are playing, i wouldnt be surprised if they whitewash this sorry excuse for an Indian team...guess its the Fletcher effect thats been affecting their bowling and batting:p

Tea, and the Indians get some welcome relief! But it's a bad day for subcontinental buttocks, for all the spanking has been on the other cheek.

LOL enjoy the dominance that your having at the moment, i still dont think Aussies are anywhere close to where they used to be...they are slowly getting there but still a long way to go before they knock England off the top spot.

Dont worry im pretty sure the Pak's will give them a good run for their money in Dubai...im hoping the paks beat them fairly and squarely this time round...hopefully no match fixing or ball tampering rows will come out of the test series they have later this month.

India have been shocking to be honest, yet I doubt much will change - whereas England's hammering of Australia prompted a root and branch review of the entire set-up, much like Australia's dominance of England did the same ten years ago, I suspect India will probably continue this laughable 'effort' for some time.

There seems to be a growing professionalism gap between teams like Eng, Aus and SA vs 'the rest' which no amount of natural talent can compensate for.

I thought his centuries included ODI as well, not just Test?

I agree. I reckon it will be 5 years before we're back up to full strength, and in that time we'll lose a lot more Tests and at least one more Ashes series (including 2012).

Ooh those Pakistanis... always tampering with their balls, it's a disgrace! :p

Just checked cricinfo and i stand corrected, you are indeed correct...its for both ODI and Test centuries...test centuries hes made 51 and 48 for ODI's....for some odd reason i keep thinking hes on 99 test centuries:p

Easy mistake to make; the way the Indians keep banging on about Tendulkar's tons, you'd think he'd made 99 each in ODIs & Tests!

:p
