I'm looking for a new monitor with the following specs:

  • 1920 x 1200 resolution
  • 24" screen size
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • <5ms response rate
  • Low input lag (no scaler)

Primary use is gaming. I know I am being very specific about the monitor I want :D

I have had a search but I can't find any monitor which matches those specs, so I may have to compromise on something :( The 1920 x 1200 resolution is a must though.

Thought I would ask here in case somebody knows of one.

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm not interested in 3D, but I heard the 120Hz monitors are good at reducing motion blur.

Samsung 2443 if you're after a fast screen, which appears to be the case. Dell u2412m if you prefer quality over speed (still plenty fast imho).

Thanks, they both look good. I was looking at the Dell (both the 24 and 27 inch) but discarded the 27 because of input lag.

I'm concerned about the response time as my current monitor is 2ms, yet the fastest I can find today is 5ms (like the Samsung 2443 you mentioned.)

Ideally I wanted a 27" monitor, but they don't seem to make TN panels at the 2560x1440 resolution (I wouldn't want 1920x1080 res on a monitor that big, the pixels would look massive!) As you say I'm probably after a TN panel for the quick response times.

I'm using 1680x1050 res at the moment on a 22" screen. It doesn't look like much of an upgrade going to 1920x1080 on a 24" screen. Especially as it goes from 16:10 to 16:9 (I think the monitor stays pretty much the same height, but gets slightly wider?)

So really it's either:

1920 x 1200, 24" @ 60Hz
1920 x 1080, 24" @ 120Hz

I thought I'd miss the extra screen space when I went from my old Dell 24" to the Benq 3d monitor I bought last year...

As soon as you see how smooth the 120hz you forget about the extra space :P

I brought back lovely memories of my Iiyama 19" CRT that I had which used to do 100hz hehe

Doubt anyone can really tell the difference and most response rates you see is just marketing lies, often the ms is double or triple that since they use the grey to grey or black to black rates which is often small.

True rates is black to white then back to black again, So I really wouldn't be so concerned about them.

The Hazro HZ27WC is better suited for gaming than the Dell and a lot cheaper. I fully agree with IronWarrior, response rates are mostly good for marketing they hardly tell you anything about how well suited a monitor is for gaming (unless it's some ridiculously high number).
tftcentral.co.uk has a great review of the HZ27WC, the last section is of particular interest to gamers.

I was looking at the Hazros, but it's an IPS panel and not fast enough for me. I wonder why they don't make TN panels at resolutions greater than 1920x1200?

I switched off the RTA on my 2ms monitor and the blurring/ghosting was terrible! So I've decided I definately want a super fast monitor.

The new Benq XL2420T looks perfect, but there aren't any reviews yet. All the other 120Hz displays are either 23" (too small) or 27" (but same resolution.)

Does anybody have a 27" monitor @ 1920x1080? How is the picture quality? I would have thought it would look awful.

ips panels are far superior to a tn panel and i bet you wont notice the difference between 2ms and 6ms. the hazro hw27c does not suffer from blurring or ghosting

received the samsung s27a950d today, set it up with PCM2s settings - wow - and i mean wow. compared to to the asus vg278h, this monitor is a whole different ballgame. in my room with my lighting, the reflections of the glossy surface don't bother me at all the picture is crystal clear.

the only problem i have with the monitor is the backlight bleed in the lower corners, but as i read, that is something all of these badboys suffer from, and it's only noticeable on very dark backgrounds.

i can only recommend this one over the asus.

It's the glossy screen which put me off these - I sit with my back to a window, where the sun shines directly into. I have to close my curtains & blind and I still can only just see my current matte screen in summer. Unfortunately there is nowhere else I can position my desk.

I have changed my mind about the Samsung monitors. I might give them a shot and hope the glossy screen isn't too bad.

I'm looking at the S23A750D or S27A750D. I've read the 750D has less of a backlight bleed issue compared to the 950D due to the frame or something. Also I have a 6970 so I have DisplayPort connectors.

So the choice is now 23" or 27". Does anybody know the actual viewable area dimensions (mm) of the 23" model?

@skuko: How do you find the picture quality on a monitor of that size, but with a relatively low res?

He is having some issues with his Samsung and has decided an IPS panel monitor is better for him. The clarity of the image is excellent, for a monitor of that size and resolution, given the screen surface. The 23" model is 23" diagonal of viewing area (it's not like the 22" models where 21.5" viewable is common). With the 6970 and DisplayPort you should have a great experience - hopefully you won't find the screen too reflective in your room :).

Thanks. Currently using a Samsung 226BW, so it looks like I would lose about 1cm of screen height going to the 23" 750D, but gain 3cm of width.
